Microapple?

I was once told that you want Microsoft software on Apple hardware. What would happen if two of the world's largest exsperts combined forces and built a system together?

Now before I go any further I have to admit something.... I'm a Mac virgin. In fact I'm a complete Apple virgin apart from an iPod nano a couple of years ago. I'm still waiting for get my iPhone when my contract runs out. And I think most of that problem is where I was born. In the UK Apple is nowhere as big as Microsoft. Schools use Windows, companies use Windows; generally people use Windows because that's what they were brought up with and it wasn't until around 6 months ago that I began thinking that I would love to try a Mac.

Anyway if Apple and Microsoft did decide to do something together, would we see a pure pedigree machine or a machine that doesn't quite know what it is? Would you lose the spark that make both systems & hardware their own ? The war between Mac and Windows seems to have gone on a long long time but could this be put to an end with the arrival of a "Microapple" system or would that just make things ten times worse!

Both companies do have a lot to learn from the other. Which ever way you look at it though, both companies are chosen by the consumer for different reasons, with which ever system working best for the needs and requirements winning. I have been a Windows user for around 11 years now and because I don't know any different would continue to think Microsoft is best system on the market.  That would be narrow minded though to think that either Apple or Microsoft produce the best anything. Each have reported faults!

What do you guys think? Microapple, a project that would bridge the gaps between different users or one that would pull them further apart?

This could never happen (history between the companies), besides even if it did you would never stop the 'fanboys' of either side. (I use both so I'm not biased either way)

"I was once told you want microsoft software on apple hardware.."

This is already done? BootCamp on a Mac can run windows as good as - if not better than most similar spec computers...

I disagree about the UK. Most companies I have ever worked for have use Macs, and most colleges/schools have at least one Mac suite now, even if it is only 3 machines.

And when you mentioned "pedigree", I don't know whether or not you've owned a pedigree dog, but they're riddled with diseases. ;)

The dog i have know is a pedigree and he isn't as far as i now riddled with diseases if im honest.

I really do think it depends on what company you have worked for , most compaines dont because most people arnt fimiliar with mac os. Call centers , banks , car dealership etc ... But a design company probably would use a mac.

Cant really comment on the schools though as havnt been to one in a few years but there wasn't any about when i did , like i say though this may have changed.

This would simply not work for numerous reasons. I will touch on just one to stay as brief as possible. Apple has always believed that the creators of truly great software should build their own hardware. Thus apple is the sole manufacturer of apple hardware which is desighned to work seamlessly with apple hardware. If apple were to join together to create a Microsoft version mixed with a mac version of a computer apple would loose control of their brand. Thus loosing their integrity as a hardware and software manufacturer. I am not sure what you are suggesting the partnership would yield however because the windows platform can already run on mac via bootcamp or parallels. And if you want an apple os to run natively on PC hardware you can just forget it. Apple will NEVER allow it's software to run on anything but apple engineered devices.

I do have to say i live and work in the UK too, i was employed after leaving my High School as the mac technician and i was in charge of over 54 computers at the age of 16, so it does show that the UK doesnt know alot about macs, but the departments that used them were Art, Music and English, the Creative subjects.

I have used a mac for about 11 years and to me they are so much more simple to use then a Windows box, i have had countless iphones and 2 iphones i have used Mac OS 7 to 10.6 and i think compared to windows which is clunky and virus ridden i enjoy the experience.
