Sprint and HTC announce the world's first 4G WiMax phone, the HTC EVO 4G

Sprint has had their 4G network running since last year, but with no handsets on it yet. When a new type of cell phone technology is released the first to be on the network's lineup for the new network is usually a laptop USB card. Now Sprint has something to brag about with the worlds first 4G phone.

HTC EVO was leaked as the HTC Supersonic earlier this year, having been found in a stash of HTC codenames in a ROM. Now it is official, and will be landing into Sprint stores this summer. When it comes to technical specifications, the EVO is a monster. It comes with a CDMA version of Qualcomm's speedy 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Another main feature of the EVO is the camera, it has dual cameras, one in the front and one in the back. The back camera is a 8 megapixel camera with dual flash and 720p video. Meanwhile, the front camera is a much less monster with only 1.3 megapixel quality. The screen is a massive 4.3 inch 480X800 TFT LCD, which coming from the monster of specifications is quite disappointing. In the enternials is 512MB of RAM and 1GB of eternal memory. The EVO is running HTC's Sense skin over Android 2.1 complete with Leap and Friend stream like the HTC Legend/Desire. The handset also has a HDMI out port, which is quite impressive. Interestingly, the phone's radio supports WiMax and Sprint's current EV-DO network. With 4G's highs peeds, it needs quite an amount of battery life, thankfully the EVO comes with a 1,500 mAh battery. Of course with a phone this powerful it comes with the standard Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Sprint has said the the EVO 4G will be coming sometime in the summer, but no word yet on pricing.

Also coming ahead of the launch of the EVO 4G is the expansion of its 4G network. Adding cities like Boston, Los Angeles, Houston, Kansas City, San Francisco, Denver, and New York.
