DailyBooth or TwitPic?

With a whole range of online image hosting sites popping up across the internet, it can be hard to decide which one to use. In the article, I will be comparing two increasingly popular sites; DailyBooth and TwitPic, in three different areas. These are the speed of uploading an image, the features offered by the website and also the layout of the homepage.

ROUND 1: Average upload speed

Firstly, I tested the upload speed of both sites. To make it a fair test, I used the same image., which was a black & white PhotoBooth (as in the Apple Mac application) picture. I found that TwitPic was slightly faster than DailyBooth, but only by around just half of a second. The approximate times were 3.5 seconds for TwitPic and 4 seconds for DailyBooth.  Round one went to TwitPic, but let's see how DailyBooth did in the next round...

ROUND 2: Features

TwitPic offers a fast, simple uploading feature, amongst other aspects such as the ability to comment on uploaded images using your twitter account and also Twitter account integration as a major feature (Hence the name; 'TwitPic'). Also, there is an interactive map on the homepage, as well as a user timeline. These allow you to view recently uploaded pictures from users worldwide.

Meanwhile, DailyBooth offers its services as a separate service, not just a social networking site ''extra''. Despite this, you do have the option to "Tweet" your uploads. Additionally, DailyBooth boasts the ability to follow other users, an on-board upload and capture tool and also your very own profile. Following users means that you can track their recent activity and uploads.

The features of DailyBooth secured a win in this round. The on-board picture capturing feature and also the social networking elements stole it from TwitPic, although a simpler experience is sometimes preferred.

ROUND 3: Layout of the homepage

As mentioned previously, the homepage of TwitPic includes an interactive map. This allows you to see where photos have been uploaded from on an international scale. In addition, TwitPic has a Recent Photos at the bottom, hints and tips to the right and an easy-to-use navigation bar at the top. These features all help to make using TwitPic an effortless experience.

On the other hand, the feature-rich DailyBooth homepage combines a 'full' page with simplicity. From the discrete account information column to the activities of the users you're following, the homepage, which is dubbed as a 'Dashboard', allows you to see what's been happening and general profile information as soon as you log into the website. Furthermore, navigation is also straightforward due to the search bar at the top, and the navigation tabs that are always accessible.

The final round and overall contest goes to… DailyBooth!

In summary, TwitPic offers a very simple service that is able to be used with your Twitter account instantly. The helpful tips that are displayed on the homepage allow almost anyone to upload a picture in a matter of seconds. Despite these prominent aspects, DailyBooth offers a more 'full-bodied' service with features to accommodate the needs of a spectrum of users.
Considering all of these points, I would recommend DailyBooth over TwitPic if you are looking for a better overall experience, however TwitPic may fit your needs if you are just looking for somewhere to share a few pictures with Twitter users.

I'm not a fan of Daily booth and I am looking to delete my profile! Do you know how to do it? I find it complicated and not many of my friends use it or heard of it. As for Twit pic, I have yet to use it but will give it a try in the future!

On the dailybooth website it says: "We will be adding this feature to the website soon but for the time being you will need to just hold off." Sorry for the late reply.
