SteelSeries QcK Mini – Review

So after using just a piece of A4 paper as a mouse mat for the past few months, I thought it was time to invest in a proper mouse pad. I decided to try out the SteelSeries QcK Mini from reading plenty of positive reviews, and the fact that it wasn’t too expensive!

When you purchase the mouse mat, it comes in a neat little package with the mat rolled up with a free SteelSeries sticker!

The specifications of the mouse mat are:

  • Made of high quality cloth material
  • Non-slip rubber base
  • Very durable
  • 250mm x 210mm x 2mm

The top of the mouse mat is made out of what seems a high quality cloth material and has a small SteelSeries logo in the bottom left corner. Even though the name of the mouse mat might suggest it’s “Mini” in size, I’ve found it to be fine for normal every day use! It’s not too small, but then it’s not too big and doesn’t take up all of your desk.

On the reverse side, the mat has a rubber base and I’ve found that this works wonders! After several weeks of use I’ve had no problems whatsoever with the mouse mat slipping. It stays right where I want it to even when I try to move it. It just doesn’t move!

With the QcK Mini being only 2mm, it starts to feel more like a soft spot on your desk rather than a mouse mat. It’s genuinely comfy, even after hours of heavy gaming! Much comfier, I imagine, than if I had my wrist and hand resting on just my desk for hours at a time.

Probably one of the most important factors of a good mouse mat, is how your mouse runs across it. The QcK mini does not disappoint. I found my Logitech mouse glides across the mat so smoothly, but with just enough friction to stop you from going to far! Advancing from just a piece of paper, to the QcK Mini has helped my game play so much. I now find I’m more accurate during Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike: Source, both of which depend on the player having accuracy and speed.

Also on day to day tasks such as browsing the internet, I find I’m more accurate and not clicking the wrong button as often, all thanks to the QcK mini!

Final thoughts

Perhaps one of the best decisions I made was to purchase the SteelSeries QcK Mini and to stop using a piece of paper! With its thinness it never gets in my way, it’s easy to clean if ever you spill anything on it, and even though it’s called “Mini” I found the size of the mat was perfect for daily use and a bit of gaming now and again.

For only £6 you can’t go wrong, and after using the QcK for a few weeks now, I don’t know why I didn’t purchase one before! If, however, you prefer bigger mouse mats then SteelSeries offer the same design but in 4 different sizes.

You have:

  • The QcK Mini at 250mm x 210mm x 2mm
  • The QcK at 320mm x 270mm x 2mm
  • The QcK + at 450mm x 400mm x 2mm
  • The QcK Heavy at 450mm x 400mm x 6mm

All of which are available at Overclockers and other online retailers for very reasonable prices!

Like normal, SteelSeries are living up to their claims with the QcK Mini, providing professional gaming gear. I can’t recommend this mouse mat enough!

10/10
