This Week in Sports 2010: Week 29

This week we cover the NL beating the AL in the MLB All-Star game for the first time in 14 years, 2 losses in the Yankee family, and South Africa is in sports news again, but its not about the World Cup.

The National League beat the American League in the 2010 MLB All-Star Game by a score of 3-1. It was Ubaldo Jimenez vs David Price for the first 2 innings, and then it was several different pitchers vs several different pitchers. No one hit a homerun in the game, but Brian McCann had a RBI Double, which was the winner. Robinson Cano had the only RBI on the AL side, with Evan Longoria and John Buck each earning a double. It was the first time since 1996 that the NL beat the AL in the All-Star Game, and they will have home field advantage when the World Series comes around.

The All-Star Game also had a tragic twist to it, as the whole League honored former Yankees PA announcer Bob Sheppard, and owner George Steinbrenner who both passed away days before the All-Star Game. Both men were iconic in the world of baseball and will be greatly missed throughout the League.

Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa won The Open at St Andrews on Sunday. Not only did this man with an unpronounceable last name win The Open, he ran away with The Open. He shot 16 under par and won the tournament by 7 strokes. The 27-year old had only made 1 cut in previous 8 attempts, and its hard not to already love the guy, as he brings more sports excitement back to South Africa.
