iPhone: A History in the Making

Remember that day when you got your shiney new iPhone? No, I’m not talking about June 24, 2010 but June 29, 2007. June 29, 2007 was the day when Apple released the phone that would set the standard for mobile devices today. That device is known as the Apple iPhone. The iPhone back in 2007, consisted of 1 page of applications, a SMS app, the phone application, the terrible camera and a bunch of other useless apps. Since 2007, every release of the iPhone has been game changing.

In 2008, Apple released the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3G featured the revolutionary AppStore, and brought along 3G capabilities via AT&T. In 2008, most of us rushed out to pick up this new iPhone in one of two colors, Black or White. With the release of the iPhone 3G,I knew the iPhone couldn’t go anywhere but up.

In 2009, Apple released the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3GS brought a ton of new features including, a video camera, a faster processor and of course, the useless compass app. The iPhone 3GS, included features that the original iPhone should’ve had from day one. Once again, the new iPhone 3GS was available in one of two colors, Black or White. I for one, wasn’t too thrilled about the release of the iPhone 3GS, due to the fact that I’ve had video recording and a compass since 2008 via a jailbreak.

Now for 2010, Apple decided to take the biggest leap since the original iPhone. On June 24, 2010, Apple released the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 is one of the greatest phones I’ve ever held. The amazing retina display, and the 5 megapixel camera will make any iPhone user go out and spend around $199 for this bad boy. Now, the retina display and the 5 megapixel camera aren’t nearly all of the additions to the iPhone 4. Also included in the iPhone 4 is a gyroscope, 2 cameras, 2 microphones and on yeah, FaceTime. FaceTime is iChat for iPhone basically. FaceTime is video chatting from your iPhone 4, to another iPhone 4 (via a WiFi connection). Honestly I can say that the iPhone 4 has set the standards high, and Apple has been doing that since 2007. The iPhone 4 isn’t just a new phone, but it’s like holding the future in your hands.

Now, as you can clearly tell, Apple, and the technology they produce has come along way since 2007. Every June, Apple announces a new iPhone, and this year I was actually excited to get my hands on one. For 2010, Apple has definitely set the standard high for mobile devices, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll see for 2011.
