CES 2011 - Samsung TVs Press Conference Recap
Last year was a great year for Samsung, this year might be better! Samsung just concluded their “TV and Home Theatre System” segment on their press conference and I have the full recap. So let us get started.
In 2010, Samsung sold 1 million 3D TV’s, most in a year by one of their products. It is 70% more than LED TV’s. In 2010, 1.5 million apps were downloaded on Samsung TVs with 300 different apps. Also, they expect to sell 6 million 3D TVs and 9 million LED TVs
Samsung then talks about some of the new TV’s coming out. (GET EXCITED)
They are finally getting rid of the bezels on the TVs. They will look like paintings on a wall. The only bezel that will be included will be .2” thick. They will also be increasing the TV sizes by one inch without affecting the resolutions (EX: 43”, 51”, 59”, 64”). You can now register compatible products within a foot of the TV’s. They will also be rolling out more apps for the TV. Developers will be allowed to use the new 2.0 version to develop apps.
Now, get really excited! This isn’t related to TV’s but… the new Samsung refrigerators will come with an 8” LCD screen that allows you to browse through a few apps like calendar, photo album, and notepad with Wi-Fi.
They will also be coming out with touch remote, which allows you to somewhat view news and such. More of that will be out soon. New 3D glasses will now be much slimmer, lighter, and looks more like eye glasses. There will be new equipment to mount TV’s on your wall like paintings, and each TV will come with an “X-shaped” stand.
Skype is coming to the TV too! Samsung showed off the Skype HD TV camera that you can purchase and hook up to your TV.
They announced the new midrange Wi-Fi Blu-ray players today, the BD-D6700 and BD-D6500, each featuring Samsung's new Smart Hub content searching software. They will include the 2D – 3D conversion and SD – HD conversion. Finally they announced their new home theatre systems. They will go with the 3D TVs which will make you feel “like your actually there”!
And that was that! Samsung will also have a Keynote tomorrow (January 6, 2011) at 4:30 PST
*Feel free to leave your thoughts!
