Could Yahoo be Acquired by Alibaba?

Typically, I don’t like to blog during the weekends but this stood out to me.  A Chinese Internet company called Alibaba seems to be interested in acquiring Yahoo.

Alibaba’s CEO Jack Ma told an audience at Stanford University this past Friday that he’s interested in acquiring Yahoo.  Who wouldn’t be interested if they had the full money for it and the potential to keep the company alive.  Ma also said he’s been approached by several private equity firms and others about his interest.

Alibaba’s interest has sparks up a lot of talk and is an interesting turn of events.  If you remember a few years ago, Yahoo acquired about a 40 percent stake in Alibaba and that investment may now be worth up to a third of Yahoo’s total value.  It seems that Yahoo is possibly thinking this through since the recently fired chief Executive Carol Bartz was fired.

Do you think Yahoo will ever be acquired?  Many companies have rumored to want to buy them and it never happens.  What do you think will happen?  If Alibaba actually does acquire Yahoo, what do you think will happen to the company?
