Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - What to Expect

One of the most anticipated games of the 2011 Holiday Season is undoubtedly Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Ever since the game was announced in May, its safe to say that every Call of Duty fan is salivating over this soon to be released treasure. Because many people liked my first "What to Expect" post, I will do one for Modern Warfare 3.

The game is being developed by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software, and Treyarch; so we should expect the same quality as previous Call of Duty games, if not better. Also, Activision has added a new free subscribtion-based service named Call of Duty: Elite. This service will be used along with the online modes of Modern Warfare 3. Such features in the free version include lifetime statistics and a social networking integration. In addition, there will be a paid version. For $49.99 USD a year, players can download content and enter daily competitions.

Many characters are expected to reprise their roles in Modern Warfare 3. Familiar faces such as Captain John "Soap" McTavish, SAS Captain John Price, and the infamous Vladamir Makarov will all return as characters. New playable characters have been confirmed as well. We also know that the plot line will continue exactly where Modern Warfare 2 left off. The Russian Confederation is still invading the United States; however, in this game, the Russians have also attacked England, France, and Germany (indicating possible battles in Europe).

Big changes have been introduced in Online Multiplayer mode. There are no longer Killstreaks. There are now Pointstreaks. Also, kills are not a way to increase Pointstreaks. Pointstreaks rewards are organized into three different "strike packages" called Assault, Support, and Specialist. In addition, Modern Warfare 3 will have a totally revamped unlocks system. Now, guns will level up alongside their players. In addition, only one profficiency can be put on a weapon. However, alongside this come new hybrid scopes. For example, there is one scope which is a Red Dot Sight and an ACOG Sight in one in which the player may interchange. Also, Treyarch are introducing the "Prestige Shop". This shop is unlocked once a player reaches prestige, and allows that player to buy special perks and other things. Ultimately with these changes, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are trying to get rid of a lot of advantages that some players have over others. Lastly, to confirm a kill, a player must pick up dog tags from their victim's dead body. However, if a player from the victim's team picks up the dog tags, the kill is not rewarded to the other team.

Overall, there have been many changes made in Modern Warfare 3 from other Call of Duty games. However, this is still a game to look forward too. I can't wait personally to start the single player campaign and then go Online to get Prestige 1 and furthur on. Let us all just hope that those shelves don't stay empty for long come November 6th.
