Want to Update your Old iOS Device to 4.2?
When Apple released 4.0 they cut off all updates to the iPhone 2G(Edge) and the original iPod Touch. This decision made much sense because of there low ram. People with the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G noticed this as well. Even though there was no multitasking or wallpapers, the devices could barely handle the upgrade.
But thanks to some modders there is a way to upgrade your older devices to a firmware like 4.2 without loosing your usability of your device.
For the older devices the custom firmware is based on iOS 3.1.3 and the firmware reproduces the majority of the features from 4.0 such as: Wallpapers, new transparent dock, backgrounds, all new icons from iOS 4.0 and up multitasking, video recording, and much more.
There is a version for the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 2G that is based on iOS 4.
I have been using it for about 3 days now and the speed difference is insane. My iPhone 3G feels as fast as the day I bought it. I can definatly feel the speed differnece with texting, there is no lag at all.
Here is a tech demo of it running.
WhiteD00r 4.2 firmware can be downloaded from here. There is a ton of options to choose from. Defiantly worth a try for people using older iOS devices that would like a speed boost.
