Great news for those with new Apple devices! Greenpois0n is going to be released any day (likely 10/10/10) and it will jailbreak 4.1 firmware for iPhone 4, iPod touch 4 and iPad. Further, rumors are Geohot will release a jailbreak for all devices on the one year anniversary of blackra1n, 10/11/2010. For those with jailbroken iPhone 4’s who have been waiting (like me) this means you can get the promitiy sensor fixed, HDR photos and Game Center. However, if you ever want to unlock your iPhone, you must upgrade to 4.1 with Tiny Umbrella. If you use iTunes to upgrade before you jailbreak you might never be able to unlock as it upgrades your baseband from 01.59.00. This video shows how simple it is to do and the step by step follows.
1) Download TinyUmbrella Here & Download iPhone 4 4.1 Firmware Here (its 590MB) – place both on your desktop
2) Connect your iPhone 4 to your Mac or PC with the USB cable and then Close iTunes
3) Start TinyUmbrella – again be sure iTunes is closed
4) Click Save My SHSH to save your 4.0, 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 SHSH blob
5) Check the Advanced Options and in the Device/Version box, select iPhone 4.1 (8B117) and click Save My SHSH again to save a 4.1 SHSH blob
6) Make sure iTunes is still closed and click Display SHSHs to verify you have saved both your iPhone 4’s current firmware (either 4.0, 4.0.1 or 4.0.2) AND 4.1
7) Click Start TSS server
8) Open iTunes select your iPhone under Devices, hold the option key (or Shift key if its a PC) and click Restore (not Update)
9) In the pop-up select the 4.1 firmware you downloaded in step 1
10) Click next and let it run
You should get a 1004 error which means the baseband didn’t update which is exactly what you want! Click OK then go back to Tiny Umbrella and click Kick Device out of Recovery. Go ahead and disconnect your iPhone and do a hard reboot. You should now have firmware 4.1 with baseband 01.59.00! You are now ready to jailbreak with Greenpois0n or Limera1n and then unlock.
