AT&T Data Throttling is Bad Business

AT&T has begun data throttling for those users "grandfathered" in to their unlimited data plan. This reduces 3G data download speeds by almost 10 times to Edge equivalent. While they won't tell you the cap it appears to be 2GB. The bottom line is AT&T wants to make more money by forcing its' longest and most loyal customers to a tiered data plan. It is similar to the way Slumlords run their apartment buildings. If you are on the unlimited plan you likely have already seen or soon will see the texts in this video.

Infinity Blade 2 to Set iOS Gaming Sales Record

I'm not the biggest gamer, but I am interested in what's popular and Infinity Blade 2, Chair Entertainment Group $6.99, is big. I'm certain it will set the sales record for an iOS game this week. All you have to do is look at the graphics to see why. It's stunning! The audio isn't so great IMO, but I prefer to listen to music when I play anyway. I think this would make an awesome Kinect game. iOS is a growing gaming system that should have Nintendo worried. Luckily, with all this competion the gaming consumer is the real winner. Hopefully the Difranco gaming channel will have some help videos up soon.

Enable iOS 5 Hidden Autocorrection Keyboard

Sonny Dickson uncovered a way to enable a hidden auto correction bar for your keyboard similar to many Android phones. It's super easy if you are jailbroken and have iFile, but it can also be done fairly simply with iBackupBot. As you can see in the video, it's pretty nice, but it changes the way the spacebar works somewhat which might make your typing slower. This is an iOS 5 hidden feature and will work with iPhones, iPads and iPods. The video shows how it works and how to turn this on with iFile. If you aren't jailbroken download iBackupBot here. Backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod in iTunes. Open iBackupBot and load the backup you just made. Navigate to var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and open the file (just hit cancel and it will open). Add these two HTML tags right above the </dict> tag.

<key>KeyboardAutocorrectionLists</key><string>YES</string>

Save and use iBackupBot to restore from backup. Anyone thinking they might use this?

iOS 5 Semi Tethered Jailbreak

Quick state of the jailbreak. There is no iOS 5 jailbreak for the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. However, for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G you can use Redsn0w. This is a tethered jailbreak which I don't recommned, but once done you can add Semi Tether from the Big Boss source to make it semi tethered. This means if your iPhone reboots the only items that will not work are Cydia and Safari. This isn't a huge deal to live without until you can get to a computer and re-jailbreak with Redsn0w to make everything work again. I decided to take my iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.1 to 5.0 and jailbreak this afternoon.

Stream Mac or PC's Media to Your iDevice With Air Playit

Stream all your music, movies and TV shows to your iPhone, iPod or iPad on either wi-fi or 3G with Air Playit, iPhoGame Dev, inc. Free,! That’s right, stream your computer’s media to your iDevice even if you are hundreds of miles away. Setting up this app is a little more involved than most so I did the following video to show how. It really is just three steps. Download the app, download the server software to your computer from http://www.airplayit.com and login to your router to get the IP address and forward one port. If you want to keep the files on your iDevice the app has a download and convert feature that allows this as well. I've been watching video over 3G with this app for the past week. While it skips some, it's not bad and I might have the slowest 3G connection in the United States.
