AT&T Buys T-Mobile
On Sunday, March 20 AT&T announces that they have purchased T-Mobile for $39 billion from Deutsche Telekom. That’s a lot of money! nothing will happen though for about a year. They have to do all the paperwork and it has to pass by the congress without being accused of monopolization, but it won’t. By AT&T purchasing T-Mobile they automatically become the largest US mobile operator ever, passing Verizon. This isn’t bad, unless you are on Sprint. There will only be two competitors in the mobile phone business, AT&T and Verizon. Sprint will be left behind. There has been rumors that Verizon may purchase Sprint, so that they can become a little more of a competition. It wouldn’t make that big of difference though. Sprint isn’t as big as T-Mobile. so who wins? Telekom. they leave a failing market that hasn’t been doing good for a while now, yet they still keep 8% of AT&T and keep $39 billion. If you are on AT&T or T-Mobile this is good for you to, reception will be getting much better.
