How Microsoft Needs to Expand Windows Phone 7
In the past six months, Microsoft has really been trying to up the ante for their mobile platform, Windows Phone 7. It has posed a pretty decent threat towards Android, but not so much iOS. From a gaming stand point, the Windows Phone 7 is so much stronger than Android because of its Xbox Live capability, but the iPhone has left it in the dust again.
If Microsoft really wants to bump the Windows Phone 7 up in the races past Android, which is a big leap, then here is what I think that they need to do. Keep in mind, Apple did the exact same thing, and they are second in the Smart Phone race, right behind RIM.
They need to make a non-phone platform. Mind boggling, I know. Apple released the iPod Touch only three months after the original iPhone launched, and I know that most of the people that I know that don't have an iPhone, have an iPod Touch.
This would be a major selling point for gamers, because of the Xbox Live functionality. I know that I would certainly consider buying the device if they did release a non-phone platform.
I think that Microsoft has a strong idea of what they are doing, but aren't looking towards the future very well.
