Facebook Announces Video Calling and Updated Chat

Today was a big day for Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook team. They announced some new features with Facebook which include a redesigned chat, group chat, and video calling. All of this was encouraged to make communication a lot smoother between users. With Google+ growing quickly, do you think Facebook will dip in numbers? I personally don’t think so.

Skype CEO Tony Bates joined forces with Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook to create the video calling. Initiating video calls between each user is extremely simple to do that your grandpa could do it. That isn’t meant to sound rude, but it’s completely true. When the service is rolled out to everyone in the coming days, you will be able to download a small file which shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds. Once the software is loaded “into” Facebook, you will be able to have a one on one video call. Just like Skype, but over Facebook which makes it better, in some ways.

Not as exciting in the group chat. Group chat is getting a complete overhaul to be more user friendly. A simple button in the top right corner will allow you to easily add people to an existing chat.

You may think that Skype is going to lose members because they aren’t advertising their service on Facebook. Think again! The Skype logo does appear briefly while the call is being initiated. They haven’t completely left the market!

In the coming days, everyone will have the new services of Group Chat and Video Calling. What do you think about this? Will you give the new Facebook Video Calling a try? Leave your thoughts and answers in the comment section.
