Don't Fall Asleep on your Netflix Plan

Netflix has been one of the largest companies for a while now in terms of streaming movies.  Netflix also allows you to rent movies as well as stream them instantly.  For awhile, Netflix gave you a plan called ‘Hybrid’ which allowed you to rent one movie out at a time and what movies instantly with web access, unlimitedly.  Now, Netflix is getting rid of this plan which was only $10 and you can pick one or the other.  If you would like both, it will be a total of $15.78 a month.

In July, Netflix announced that it planned to eliminate the Hybrid plan.  This plan is finally going to be eliminated this Thursday.  If you haven’t already canceled and you only want one or the other, you may want to do so, now!  If Netflix see’s that you have the ‘Hybrid’ plan, it will assume that you still want the ability to have a DVD rented and the unlimited streaming.  Since it will see it as that, it will be charging you nearly double what you have been paying.  If you would like just video streaming or just DVD rental, you will have to log into your account and tell it so.

It simply just takes you a few minutes to choose a new plan or to cancel your previous plan.  All this can be found on your personal Netflix account.  Don’t waste time, make the change!

I did a write up on the Netflix change of plans on my personal site, I previously had the DVD/Streaming plan with Netflix, but cancelled the day the changes were announced, and went with Blockbuster, which I soon regretted.

While I don't agree with their change of pricing, the $7.99 for either DVD or Streaming, or $16 for both is actually, in my opinion, a good deal. Blockbuster in their DVD catalogue, for people who like TV shows, have a smaller collection available than Netflix do in streaming alone, not to mention once you price in how much Blockbuster charge to rent movies/TV episodes, plus the price of the DVD plan itself, Netflix still, for some, will win the fight in terms of who's offering more value for the money.

After my short time with them, I went ahead and cancelled Blockbuster, and went back to Netflix. Like I said, I don't agree with the change, but when you look at the competition, Netflix are still reasonably well situated in relation to the competition.
