The Super Material of the Future: Spider Silk
Spider silk, a material that can be found naturally on little critters that give many of us the icks, is being hailed as "new super material of the future" due to its surprising resilience, strength, and elasticity.
Before arriving at this realization, scientists put the material through a variety of rigorous tests, comparing it to materials that are generally recognized for these characteristics, such as steel, kevlar, and rubber bands - and spider silk proved superior in every case.
This has caused quite a stir in many industries, including the automobile, medical, military, and construction industries, since these are all industries that stand to directy benefit from the discovery of spider silk. Scientists forsee spider silk being used in things like bulletproof clothing, new and improved airbags, and artificial skin for burn victims.
