TapTapSee: a Free iPhone App for Visually Impaired Users

The visually impaired have a special kind of challenge when it comes to the use of modern technology. While there are many products and services that integrated usability for the blind, mobile technology is still catching up. If you are looking for an app that evens the playing field for the iPhone, look no further than TapTapSee.

How It Works

By allowing you to take a photo using the on-board camera, it will identify the object. It will then be clearly spoken, given a full description of the item in question. It also has recognition for all US currency, making it easy to tell which dollars are being used despite the uniform size.

In the latest version they have added a few improvements. These include a repeat button, auto-flash for low light conditions and a display message that alerts you when VoiceOver is off and so cannot run.

Conclusion

This is a free application, easy to use and very helpful for any visually impaired users who own an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
