What to Expect from iOS7
Although nobody knows exactly what we can expect from iOS7, there are many features that people are expecting Apple to add to the operating system. Over the past few years iOS has improved a lot. It’s quite hard to believe that not so long ago there wasn’t a way to copy and paste text for example! You might think that iOS6 has just about everything that you could ever need, but here are some things that people are expecting from the next big update (which will more than likely be released in the summer of 2013):
- Ability to delete default apps – If you’ve ever owned an Apple product such as an iPhone you’ll know that it isn’t possible to delete any of the default apps such as the maps app for example. This is something that has annoyed people for a long time, because these apps are taking up screen space on devices. Hopefully when iOS7 is released Apple will give us a chance to choose which default apps we want to use.
- Kid mode – Have you ever given your iPhone, iPad etc. to a kid only to realise that they deleted some important emails after you’ve got it back from them? Imagine if you had an option in settings to change to kid mode which won’t allow them to make any significant changes to the device, including downloading / deleting apps. We think people would love something like this
- iTunes downloads over 3G / 4G – At the moment you can’t download any large files from iTunes (such as a TV show) over 3G or even 4G. Instead, if you want to download something like this you’ve got to wait until you’ve access to WiFi. We totally understand why Apple have decided to do this (so that people don’t go over their monthly download limit within an hour or two!) but we still think that people should at least have the choice of using their monthly allowance or not. As 3G and 4G gets better, we expect this to change in the near future.
- Password protection – We all know that you can set a password on your device to stop people from looking through those embarrassing text messages of yours and so on, but you can only set this on your home screen. We’re expecting Apple to give their users more choice in iOS7, which would allow people to decide which apps require a password to get in to. So, for example: You could set a password on the Facebook and Twitter app so that someone that’s using your device can’t get access to your accounts. It’s such a simple idea, but it’d still be brilliant.
- Widgets – Although the current layout of apps is quite nice, it’d be so much better if we could put widgets wherever we wanted. This would allow us to put something like a clock (see the image below) in notification center or even where all your apps usually are. We think people would love to be able to customize their device even more, and hopefully iOS7 will let us do just that.
