Exit Path Review (Video Included
Nothing is more satisfying than playing a simple flash game when you’re bored or down. With final’s happening all of last week I was stressed by the all night study session and the doubtful feeling of me failing a class. This lead me to browse onemorelevel.com which is a site full of flash games. I found one game in particular that caught my attention and that was exit path. Sure the icon didn’t look like much; just a stick figure standing in front of a bed, but for some reason that icon was good enough to catch my attention. You never can judge a book by its cover, and I was already procrastinating so I figured why not. Couldn’t become any worse than what it Is now could it?
I clicked on the icon and was greeted with the sound of an orchestra tuning their instruments as if it were about to begin a huge concert. At first I thought it was the sound of the PS3 starting up, but there was a difference between the two sounds so I quickly disregarded that thought. Once the game had finished loading I started to mess with the settings a bit, I changed my character from blue to green and I didn’t see a need for a hat. So I started to play the game and once it started I realized it was going to be a 2D sidescroller. I don’t have any problems with those; I loved the Super Mario Bros when I was growing up so these kinds of games can be a breath of fresh air.
After “reading” instructions on the wall I started to breeze through the tutorial levels with no problem. However before I get into the actual gameplay I would like to mention something. The setting of this game kind of reminds me of portal. After you complete the stadium events portion of the game you are promised freedom but you had to go through a scan to prove if you were worth it. Once you go through the scan you are denied freedom to go through further evaluation of your performance. Once you get passed that it looks like you are promised freedom then the lights come on with blood written messages on the wall. So in a nutshell you are a subject or contestant being held against your will going through a series of death courses to see if you are a worth subject for some project? It does sound kind of like portal, except it portal you were promised cake and you had a suicidal robot who wanted you dead throughout the entire plot.
Speaking of the plot, the whole point of this game is to achieve your freedom. How do you do such a task? All you have to do is survive the constant death traps the whole place has set out for the test subjects. You have to survive spinning axes of doom, spiked floors, spinning saws of death, laser, and ceilings that would crush you on a whim. But it doesn’t matter if you die really. Because if you die (which it only takes a tap to do so) it rewinds you back to the last check point kind of like prince of Persia. This isn’t a bad thing either. You know what else isn’t a bad thing? The controls to this game. The controls are so smooth and easy to use and remember that you would be drooling all over your keyboard. All you have to use is the directional pad and space bar. That’s it.
The music to this game is quite amazing as well. It is an upbeat techno theme that makes you feel and want to make it through the game. That’s the best thing about video game music; it fits the need of the protagonist and the player. You can buy this soundtrack on amazon or iTunes. Other than all of that there is nothing more to say about this game, it is a fun and addictive game with incredible music and awesome controls. Even if you are not a big pc gamer, give this game a shot.
Thanks for watching/reading.
