5 Tools to Find Awesome Quotes

Why say it yourself when someone else has said it better? There is a reason that quotes remain such a big part of today's culture. A good phrase, poignant point or just an elegant repose sticks in the mind. Not to mention the context it can provide for various situations, where sometimes a well spoken quote says more than anything you could come up with yourself.

There are plenty of places where you can find these phrases. Even sites like IMDB have sections dedicated to quotes from movies. But there are the five tools I have personally found the most effective.

1. Quoto

Quoto

This is a large database with over 150,000 quotes that you can search by keyword, authors name or topic. They also have a gallery full of photo quotes that you can use on social networks and blogs. What I like about Quoto is that it has both well known people and the things they have said, and random quotes from anonymous speakers that could have come from anywhere. It gives the whole thing a nice balance between the inspiring and the sweet, the odd and the influential. It even has some funny ones that you might not have considered using before, such as quotes by Charlie Sheen. Winning!

2. Movie Jit

Movie Jit

When you think about quotable movies, what comes to mind? Gone With The Wind? Casablanca? Maybe Star Wars? That is perfectly understandable, as these are some of the most influential films of all time, and have made a huge impact on our culture today. But what about Fast and The Furious 6? Iron Man 2? Or maybe TV shows like The Big Bang Theory? They might not be the most classic of media, but they are still relevant, and you still might want a quote or two from their scripts. Movie Jit has a huge collection of quotes from film and television of all kinds. They even have both a A-Z quote list, and a Top 100 section.

3. Forismatic

Forismatic

Sometimes it can be soothing and freeing to read an inspirational quote. This app allows you to do it straight from your Mac. Just download the app and it will create a small button on your toolbar. You open up the drop down menu and read a random quote generated by the app. They also have a version for the iOS, so you can have it on your phone or tablet. Just a simple way to get some quotes on your device, whenever you want them.

4. Jazz Quotes

Jazz Quotes

Jazz players are well known for their cool, insightful nature. Some of the quotes they bust out are truly memorable, especially the jazz greats of the past. This is a website dedicated to hosting quotes from various legendary names. Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong...they are all here.

5. Number Quotes

Number Quotes

Anyone looking for a quote to go with a statistic or business, academic or even just personal use need look no further. This is a really cool website that will help you to come up with a quote that goes with any number. Want to tell people the equivalent of an amount of money your company earned in a fiscal quarter? Want to compare the percentage of positive results in a scientific study? Just search for one here. It is easy to use. Just put in a number and it will show you the various connections that can be made. For example, did you know that 130,000 centimeters would reach as far as 13 football pitches? I didn't.
