April is National Humor Month, which seems appropriate when we kick off the month with the unofficial, official holiday dedicated to the trickster and the prankster.  But merry fools need not limit their frivolity to just one day.  April is actually filled with a number quirky dates and celebrations.  So amaze your friends and delight your coworkers with a nod to these special days.

Most folks know to expect the odd prank on the 1stof April, but how many know that this is also International Tattoo Day?  Imagine the reaction you could get from your boss if you waltzed into the office sporting an array of interesting new ink.  The good news for most of us is that they now come in the temporary variety.

Speaking of work, the 1st also commemorates International Fun at Work Day.  This is followed on the 3rd with Don’t Go To Work Unless It’s Fun Day.  If you really don’t enjoy your job, I guess you could goof off on the 1st and stay home on the 3rd.  You might want to clear that with your boss first or you might be staying home longer than one day.

The entire first week of April is designated Library Week with Children’s Book Day observed on the 2nd,  National Library Day on the 16th, Talk Like Shakespeare Day on the 23rd , Tell a Story Day on the 27th  and Great Poetry Reading Day on the 28th.

Interestingly enough, the first week is also Read a Road Map Week.  Somebody somewhere needs to understand the difference between linguistics and cartography.

The 4th brings us Tell a Lie Day (how is this different from Tell a Story Day?).  This could come in handy if you observed the whole don’t go to work thing without clearing it first.  Don’t confuse this with National Honesty Day which falls on the 30th.   You might be put to the test on this as the same day is Hairstyle Appreciation Day

On the 7thwe observe No Housework Day – although my husband would probably tell you I celebrate that one year-round!

The 10th brings us Golfer’s Day where we can all dream about birdies and eagles – or the ever allusive albatross.  If you’re not a fan of the dimpled ball, you might want to celebrate Draw a Picture of A Bird Day on the 8th instead.

I’m not exactly sure how one celebrates Ex-Spouse Day, but if you can come up with a legal way to do so, do it on the 14th.

Ronald Regan wasn’t the only person to enjoy the Jelly Bean so it gets its own day on the 22nd.  Other notable foodie celebrations this month include National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on the 2nd, Caramel Popcorn Day on the 7th, National Eggs Benedict Day on the 16th, National Cheeseball Day on the 17th, National Garlic Day on the 19th, National Zucchini Bread Day on the 23rd, Pig in a Blanket Day on the 24th, National Pretzel Day on the 26th, National Prime Rib Day on the 27thand National Shrimp Scampi Day on the 29th.

And rounding out the month is an homage to one of my personal favorites, BabeRuth Day on the 27th.  RIP Great Bambino
