FlyNRate iPhone App: Real Flight and Airport Ratings

Avid travelers will have their share of airline horror stories. Some are filled with minor inconveniences, such as delayed flights on the tarmac or cancellations that led to a longer wait for another plane. But some are truly awful, and I have friends who have gotten food poisoning from the meals, had airlines claim their ticket was never purchased despite confirmation numbers, and even one friend only twenty pounds (give or take) overweight being forced to buy a second seat, despite causing no complications for other passengers.

Incase Neoprene Sleeve Review (13" MacBook Pro)

In today's society it seems as though taking a computing device everywhere is necessary. We now have laptops and tablets we carry with us. Investments do need to be protected, so that is where the Incase Neoprene Sleeve comes into play.

This product retails for around $39.95 at the Apple store. This product is just a sleeve; it's not a case. I consider a case to hold many products, not just your laptop. But I love the simplicity of the product. It'd be so easy to get through security in an airport with this sleeve. However, the product doesn't include a handle, which can make carrying the sleeve with your laptop in it.

Find out my full opinion on this product. I encourage you to watch the video above. The one I show in the video is the black color, but the product is available in a variety of colors. Click here to purchase the Incase Neoprene Sleeve.

AirPort Express: Ideal for a College Dorm Room

I was pondering thoughts and this brilliant idea came across my mind. Let me first say that I do not own an AirPort Express, nor am I a college student. I am currently using a Linksys wireless router and am currently in my Junior year of high school. So, why is the Airport Express ideal for a college dorm room or apartment?

First, the amount of space the thing takes up is so minimal and you can really put it anywhere. Dorm rooms are very tiny, but you will, without a doubt, find room for this tiny 3.7 x 2.95 x 1.12 inch device. It only weighs 7.4 ounces!

Secondly, the main feature of this device, the wireless internet router. Sure, you might be saying, "Why the heck would you need wireless internet in such a small room?" Here's why. College students are usually either lazy or tired, meaning they don't want to bother with all of the wires or having to sit at their desk to be online. Wouldn't they love to be able to relax on their bed and still be able to connect to Facebook? Or maybe they want to watch a movie online and they don't want to watch it at their desk. The point is, is that in a dorm room you don't want to be restricted to one place where you can use the internet.

Thirdly, the capability to print wirelessly. Most know that colleges don't make enough room on the desks for a printer and usually students have to physically pick up the printer and move it when they want to print. With the AirPort Express you can print wirelessly so you don't have to deal with cords not being long enough. It's also quite ridiculous for you and your roommate both to have individual printers in the same room. With the AirPort Express, you can share the same printer with your roommate and possibly even keep the printer under the bed and out of the way. You will also cut down on ink cartridge costs by sharing a printer and splitting the price.

Fourthly, everybody likes listening to music and how awesome would that be to play music from your computer wirelessly! Another cord elimination! Students can just hang around the dorm room playing music from iTunes and streaming it to speakers that can be all the way at the other side of the room. You can also control the music from an iPod touch or iPhone which is another awesome feature.

Fifthly, almost anybody can use it! Whether you are using a Mac or a PC you can still use this amazing device. As long as your computer has a wireless card in it and a somewhat modern operating system you can use the AirPort Express.

Well, I covered some pretty awesome features (if I may say so, myself). You can use internet wirelessly, print wirelessly, listen to music wirelessly, all from this tiny device that almost anybody with an updated computer could use. What do you think? Do you agree that the AirPort Express would be great to have in a dorm room? Let me know!

A Geek's Guide to Being Stuck in an Airport

For the past few weeks, I've been seriously looking forward to a little vacation out to California, specifically San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. I have been awake since 9:30AM on August 10, 2010. As I'm writing this, it is 5:30AM on August 11. Why am I up so early? My flight was supposed to leave at 5:10 this morning, but beacuse of fog, I'm stuck here until 9:30AM. So, what am I going to do? Write a blog post of course! And what better topic than what to do when you're stuck at the airport.

Airport Wifi

Obviously the most essential part of being a geek stuck in an airport is finding (and possibly paying for) a Wifi signal somewhere near by. I'm actually stuck in Grand Forks, North Dakota, which offers free Wifi for everyone. However, most major airports require payment for Wifi access, or multiple hotspots.

Hulu, Netflix, etc.

Like I said, I'm here for 4 hours. That means I'm going to need a lot of time filler. Again, this may vary from airport to airport, depending on Wifi strength, but if strong enough, fire up Hulu or Netflix and catch up on the latest episode of your favourite show, or watch a movie. You'd be amazed how fast time flies when you're making your way through all 6 seasons of "Lost."

Email/Facebook/Organizing

You have a bunch of extra time. What better way to spend it than by getting something actually productive done? Go through your old email, deleting messages you'll never look at again. Go through Facebook, cleaning up your wall or comments on your best pictures. Reorganize the entire filesystem on your computer. The possibilities of organizing and being productive are absolutely endless.

Read a Book

Even with our endless access to technology these days, a book is still your best friend. Given, it doesn't necessarily have to be a paperback or a hardcover; many people have ebook readers now, including Amazon's Kindle, Barnes and Noble's Nook, and even Apple's iPad. Books can truly take you into an entirely different world, letting your imagination do the work.

As for me, I'm busying myself with this post, then I just might watch some old Futurama on Netflix. I can only hope that they get me out of here before I go insane.
