Super KO Boxing 2 – Mike Tyson Lives

I hope you enjoyed my review last week of Tiger Wood's PGA Tour, still the Gold Standard of iPhone games. Today, I'm reviewing another superb iPhone game in Glu’s Super KO Boxing 2, $4.99. If you were a fan of the classic Mike Tyson’s Punchout on Nintendo, I think you’ll love this game. I remember playing that game for hours and then when you finally got to Mike, he destroyed you. What made that game one of my all time favorites was how well the characters were done, how each had there special punch and the humorous text in-between rounds. This game has all that plus the sounds are entertaining as well.

The goal of the game is to win the title belt by beating 12 other cartoon crazy boxers. You character is called K.O. Kid and you’ll have to will three belts along the way with each opening up the new boxers to face. The first few are easy, but it gets progressively harder as you go. When you start the app there are three modes of play, but you’ll spend most you time in Circuit mode trying to win belts and unlock boxers. Each opponent has a unique look and ability. For example, 15 Cent, seen here on the right, is a bling wearing rapper character that can doge punches with some dance like moves. When he’s introduced his shorts fall down to this ankles and he yanks them up to just above his knees. To taunt you he smiles and then bitch slaps you about 8 times. It’s a really funny game as you can watch in the video below. The controls are natural and easy to use. Dodge left and right and punch high or low. The power meter in the bottom right builds up for you to throw super punches as well. Lastly, touch the KO Kid and he taunts your opponent which is quite important as certain boxers can only be defeated through taunting them. Another plus to the game is its quite challenging. For example, Chief (an American Indian character) was destroying me. After playing for almost an hour I still couldn’t knock him down once. Luckily, there is a site you can goto for help. The trick with Chief is you can’t punch him until you doge a few of his punches first. Then after the first knockdown the only way to beat him is to taunt him. I never would have figured this out. These treads are pretty funny as well as people whine about playing for 8 hours and not being able to beat a certain boxer. Other characters include Dr. Voo Dude, El Diablo, Dynavolt, Shogun and Executioner. It really feels great to finally beat one of these guys after so much time. At this point I’ve been playing for over 10 hours and I’m not even halfway through the boxers. Even with the help site, my guess is it will take well over 40 hours of gameplay to actually win. Tiger Woods PGA Tour: Still Gold Standard of iPhone Games

Over 100,000 apps. Let's be honest. That's a lot of crap. Luckily there are some quality apps like EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour, $4.99. The game play is intuitive and graphics are great. The only downside, no online play?? Come on EA – an online Leaderboard would be huge. Imagine the bragging rights! This is an amazing app with just about every feature a serious fan could hope for out of an iPhone golf game. There are 126 holes on seven courses (Pebble Beach, St Andrews, TPC Sawgrass, The K Club, Doral, Fancourt TPC Boston), real golfers like Tiger, Vijay and Annika, invitationals and tournaments, and a control scheme that truly feels great. Adding spin to the ball is easy and hitting is like Golden Tee. To begin, you create your very own golfer from a competent character generator. You get to pick skin color, short or long pants and short or long shirts. See me in the purple and gold on the right. I look like I’m on the LSU golf team. Once you have your model you can either practice your shot or jump right into the extensive tournament schedule. When addressing the ball there is a button that gives a raised camera view which covers the entire hole giving you a bird’s eye view of how to play the hole. Another thing I like about this game is the money. You start with $50,000 and you have to buy your way into tournaments. You won’t be close to winning at first. However, you still make bonus cash by hitting good shots. Make a great drive or hit a good putt and you get bonus cash. You use this money to buy better clubs, gloves, tees all of which improve your spin, power, control and putting. This is nice since you will not make the leaderboard the first few times you play.The swing meter is great. As I mentioned it totally reminds me of Golden Tee. Remember teeing off with a bottle of brew in your left hand! Love that game. Pictured here on the left you just slide your finger down and then back up. Once you hit the ball you can swipe your finger across the screen to give it a little hook or draw. You must be precise. A little off and you are in the rough and its much harder to play from there. So after playing this game for hours I finally realized that putting is quite simple. When on the green your “caddie” gives you the read in text on the left. Something like 1 foot short and 6 inches left. You don’t have to look at the grid just go with his tip and you’ll be draining putts left and right. See the leaderboard to the right. Who’s that leading at -2 after 8 holes. Yes, that’s your man iPhone4! I’ve played 18 holes at work many times with no battery drain issues. Play a couple of holes, take a call, relaunch the game and you pick up right where you left off. Not surprising that EA made such a quality golf game for the iPhone. I’d give it a 9 out 10. Get it online and it’s a 10. Get Great Deals On iPhone and iPod Touch Apps

Bargain Bin is the greatest iPhone app ever! Maybe not, but it certainly is great. Bargain is an application the goes through the iTunes App Store and finds apps with price drops or changes. Bargain Bin is much better than App Sniper (another similar app) because it allows you to use push notifications, is free and is overall much nicer looking. One thing about Bargain Bin that I don't is that it has no search feature, which would definitely be nice!

How Much Money Have You Spent On Apps?

Do you have an iPod Touch or iPhone? If you do, you must have bought many apps from the app store, but do you know how much money was used in buying them? With an application called "App Store Expense Moniter". This application puts the amount of money you have spent purchasing apps in the Menu Bar on your Mac.
