Call of Duty 8?

Call of Duty is one of the most popular FPS (First Person Shooter) and in general one of the biggest games around. The series has been produced by two different companies Treyarch, and Infinity Ward but released by Activison. It has been that Treyarch would make the odd numbered games and Infinity Ward would make the even numbered games. Through out all the releases Infinity Ward has produced better quality and higher selling games. Although with their release of Black Ops they have really stepped up their game. Many have said that this is comparable to the Modern Warfare series which is made by a much bigger studio.

There have been some major business changes in Infinity Ward with the two founders leaving and a good amount of their staff also leaving the company. After making their amazing sub-series Modern Warfare their has been talk about disagreements on payment between them and Activison. With those two things in mind it was unknown if they were out of the Call of Duty series all together as it is their turn to put out the next game. There are a few different rumors going around. One of them is that they will be still making and putting it out this year, another is that a different company has hired to make the game, and the third is that both a third company and Infinity Ward will be putting out a game.

Recent talk and posts from several other gaming websites have stated that Infinity Ward is not out of the Call of Duty series but may be taking the year off and coming back with a new game. The game that they are said to be making is based upon the character Ghost in Modern Warfare 2.

The third company that has been being talked about is Sledgehammer Games. They are a fairly small and new gaming company but have recently opened new facilities. Their new studio's are state of the art, and running these are industry leading development teams. Sledgehammer games has put up a page on their site stating that they are working with Activision on the Call of Duty series. Even with that Activision has not stated this yet. Even if they are making a COD game it is unknown which one they will be making. Since Sledgehammer said they were making the game what type of game will it be? Will it be a new sub-series like Modern
Warfare or will it be a single game release like many of the ones that Treyarch has put out? it is still unknown. Sledgehammer Games may be putting their COD game out at the end of this year of next year, it is still up in the air.

Many of also stated that it does take a lot of time and resources to make a game. That is a known fact and that may also be a factor as why a third party has come in to give the other two studios more time to make better games. There is still little information out about the game, so many things may change.

Are you excited for the new Call of Duty game or are you tired of it? Which studio has produced better games in you eyes (Treyarch making the odds and Infinity Wards making the evens)? Do you want to see a new studio take a hand at Call of Duty? Share you thoughts and ideas in the comments.
