Apple Pushing iPad 3 To 2012 Over Retina Display Concerns?
Apple may be forced to delay the release date of the widely popularized iPad 3 over concerns of the Retina display. Apple has fitted two of its three iOS devices with Retina display, the iPhone 4 which was announced along with the unique high-resolution display, and the iPod Touch 4th Generation which was released later that year.
The iPad 3 Retina display, which could boast a 2048x1536 resolution at just 9.7”, is rumored to be requiring a much larger backlight source than the current source used in its predecessors. However, the iPad 3’s requirements over physical thickness, rich color support and toughness will all conflict with the panel’s technology restrictions; consequently, Apple may have to push back the iPad 3 release date until next year in order to focus on the Retina support.
Apple was originally set to launch its iPad 3 in the second half of 2011 with a supply volume of 1.5-2 million units in the third quarter and 5-6 million in the fourth quarter, but Apple's supply chain partners have recently discovered that the related figures have all already been deleted, the sources pointed out.

Digitimes reports that Apple has infact cancelled iPad 3 stock for the second half of 2011. A staggering supply volume of several million devices created in 6 months would be the case had the Retina display not caused a battle for Apple to successfully achieve the inclusion of the display which has "more pixels than your eyes can handle".
Apple had to overcome a similar problem with its white iPhone 4. The white iPhone 4 was set to be released alongside it's black counterpart, but instead was subject to failure with the Retina. Reports indicate the issue with the third generation iPad is a reoccurrence of this issue.
