Chrome Apps Episode 7: Planner 5D

Today we are going to be looking at an application called “Planner 5D”. This application is a home designing tool that allows you to create your dream house with all of the tools it provides. The application caught my eye one day while browsing the Chrome App store and I was feeling a bit on the creative side. So I decided to give it a shot and download it. After taking about twenty minutes of using the app and getting used to the interface I soon found myself making my own little office with no problems what so ever. I should mention that getting used to this application isn’t quite as easy as it seems, but it doesn’t take long after the understanding of the interface. With that said, let’s see if this application is for you.

Being a Chrome Application this app is free. So what we get for a free app is actually quite impressive. You get a wide selection of furniture, Electronics, flooring, Ceiling, etc. To place these items in your room, all you have to do is drag and drop. You are then given options to rotate the object, or move it to another place in the room. This makes organizing your room a lot easier. Another cool feature this app has to offer is the ability to go into a first person 3D perspective. So when you’re done designing your room in the bird’s eye view, you can go into the 3D view and see what your room looks like from your perspective. This gives a very unique ability to this app that even made me feel impressed.

When you’re in the First Person view, the controls are a bit awkward to get used to at first. You will be using the W A S D keys while clicking and holding down the left mouse button while moving the mouse to control the camera. It did take a bit to get used to, but once I did I wasn’t having as much of problems moving around the room as I did the first time. Once you are done viewing your room, you can stretch out the room to make it smaller or larger. Sometimes however this can be very strange and distort the room making it look unrealistic. But this isn’t a bad thing all together. This does give you the creative freedom into designing a unique room to your taste.

All in all this is a very cool application that can provide you with hours of entertainment. Being able to create a room with a bunch of furniture can actually help you plan out a room of your own in real life. This app does if you the general idea of what you want and can give you the control to understand how to get what you want to come to life. So if you have the free time, give this app a shot.
