Crush The Castle Review

Do you remember the Angry Birds game review I did not long ago? In that review I mentioned a game just like it that was the possible inspiration behind angry birds. That game that was mentioned was called “Crush the Castle”. I had a lot of things happen to me this week, so I thought it would be a good idea to sit at my desk and play this game again. So today we are going to be talking about one of my favorite classic flash games. Again, this game might be the inspiration behind Angry Birds, so it plays much like it. So all you have to do is kill all the guards while destroying everything in the process. A fun and addictive Physics game in other words. So let’s dive right in and get started shall we?

First I have to mention the graphics to this game. For a flash game everything is well drawn and detailed. However, in contrast to all the nice little pieces, there isn’t a whole lot of movement going on. That’s not entirely a bad thing, but it makes it seem like all the kings, queens, maidens, guards, and workers are nothing more than hunks of metal standing up on their ends while they bob back and forth. When they bob around they also sound like they are chucks of metal walking on metal. Something as simple as a little movement, walking, or even just breathing or firing back would of made it a little bit more believable. But that’s okay really; this does give the game a bit more of a challenge.

Speaking of challenge, the hardest part of this game is knocking anything down or hitting your mark. There is a lot of problems with the weight being to accurate, then the level developer putting things a little bit further back making it almost impossible for you to hit something. Near the end of the game I came to this level where only the king and queen were in the back making it hard to hit. By a freak accident I was able to get my rock to bounce off of the other rock and peg both of them in the face. Again, this was all by freak accident. If you try to reach those two by yourself I will guarantee you will fail.

Now let’s talk about music. Aside from the title screen, the beginning trumpets, and the failure sound there is not a whole lot of music to go by. In fact, everything that is played while you are playing the game is nothing more than a bunch of sound effects. This isn’t a bad thing either. It actually immerses you into some kind of environment rather than some epic battle. So it makes it feel almost real. So in a way I am thankful for the lack of music, but in another way it does seem to get old after a while. But since you can mute everything, it will probably be a good idea to get yourself a CD to play in the meantime.

This game does kill a lot of time for you. When I was in high school I had to take an introduction to computers class, which was nothing more than learning how to use your computer. I had a lot of free time on my hands and did play this game a lot because of the lack of projects I needed to complete. So if it can kill a couple hours for me, you’d be surprised how much time it can kill for you. So why don’t you give this game a shot and have a blast.
