Amazon Fire TV
On April 2nd 2014 Amazon released the Amazon Fire TV, a video streaming device that not only streams your favorite services like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and Amazon prime Instant Video (just to name a few) straight to your TV, but will be a gaming console in the mix as well. This device was released in hopes of taking on the Apple TV, Google’s Chromecast, and the Roku, which although this is a wide market because there are many other video streaming devices much like the Western Digital Video Streamer. But does the Amazon Fire TV have the potential to take on the top competitors?
The specs of both machines (of both the Fire TV and Apple TV) will surprise you, and for the same price you get more with the Amazon Fire TV than you do with the Apple TV. For example, the Amazon Fire TV has 2GB of Memory while the Apple TV only has 512MB of memory. The Amazon Fire TV also allows for voice searching with is a unique feature that isn’t on the apple TV as well. The only downside however is that HBOGO isn’t on the Fire TV but is on the Apple TV, but in contrast Amazon Instant Video is on the Fire TV but not the Apple TV. Screen Mirroring can be done with the Kindle Fire HDX on the Fire TV while it’s done Via Air Play on the Apple TV. But the biggest difference in products aside from the RAM has to be the Processor. The Apple TV has a Single-Core Apple A5 Processor, while the Fire TV is sporting a 1.7GHz quad core Qualcomm processor Lastly, the amount of total channel apps is a 100+ for Fire TV, but <100 for the Apple TV. Through the specs alone this shows that the Amazon Fire TV has a good chance in the competition. But what do you think?
