Ever wondered why certain websites are shown when you type a search query into Google?  Those results are known as organic (non-paid) and are calculated by Google’s algorithm.

Websites are only shown in the search engine results pages (SERPs) when they are crawled and indexed by the search engine, such as Google.

Google tries to provide the most relevant search result according to what you are searching for.  SEO is the art and science of bringing your website to the fore-front of the SERPs when users search for terms relating to your product or service.
