Hey guys, Byron here again. As some of you saw, yesterday I unboxed my first mac, the 13" Macbook Pro. Just after, I recorded my first bootup of the new Macbook Pro. Check out the video below and feel free to subscribe to my channel if you wish to see more vids by me!

iPhone to Get Wireless Movie Store?

Its been rumored that the next generation iPhone is going to be able to wirelessly download movies and TV shows. This has not been available on current models since the download speed would be excruciatingly slow. This rumor started up after Apple announced the iPhone was going to support 802.11 wireless. You can read the whole article here.

Microsoft's New Misleading Ad

Microsoft has yet again released another "PC's are junk, but they're cheaper than Macs" ads. This one features Lauren (they can't come up with a new name?) and her mom trying to find a laptop with "speed, portability, and battery life" for under $1,700. She goes around a Best Buy (at least it looks like one) and browses through their selection of computers, and ventures into the Mac section. She picks up a Mac Pro (the ad does not tell the view it is a Pro, you can only tell by the name on the small price sticker that is on the screen for about a second) and says its $1999 price tag is too expensive, and it does go over her budget, which would be fine, if they told the viewer this is Apple's high-end product. What gets me angry is that Microsoft once again is attacking Apple's prices without giving the viewer all the facts. Also, why such the large amout of money in this one? I guess this is Microsoft's way of saying that you cannot get a Mac for under 1,700, but of course you can. This Lauren lady could have purchased a regular 13" Macbook for $1,299 or $1,599, both still under her budget.

App Review: myHomework

Price: Free

Developed By:Rodrigo Neri

Developers Site:www.rigoneri.com

myHomework is a simple and easy to use iPhone/iPod Touch application that allows you to keep track of your homework, classes, projects, and tests while interacting with a really cool user interface. I am going to go in-depth of this application. It is free so why not test it out? Especially if your a High School or College student this app is a must for you.

Review:

OK so when you first open up the app you get a notepad background with credits to the developer of the application. Right after it finishes loading the page peels to the top left corner and your on your main myHomework page by default which is the Homework List. There are 3 total sticky tabs on the bottom of the notepad that consist of:

  • Homework List(Yellow Sticky)
  • Classes(Green Sticky)
  • Settings(Blue Sticky)

On the top right of the notepad of both the Homework list and classes pages consists of a "Add +" button. Tap it and then another paper graphic and a paper clip. Now this is your form to add new homework/classes. The forms for the New Homework submissions gives you these form items:

  • *Title- Which is obviously needed in order to add it to your notepad.
  • Class- To attach a class name that the homework originates from.
  • Type- Is it a project, test or just homework?
  • *Due Date- Again needed to submit. Lets you know when its due.
  • Notes- Very useful if your teacher/professor gives certain instructions for assignment.

Once your finished filling in your assignment you then go ahead and tap the green Confirm button or if you decided for some reason to not add it then go ahead and tap the Cancel button. Pretty straight forward and very easy to do.

Overall Thoughts:

This is by far the best application that I have come across under the Education category in the app store. The design is amazing and fits well into the concept of the application itself. It acts as a to-do list but for people who are in school/college. Overall this is a great application and recommended getting it since its free, and if your in school/college. This app gets a 9/10 for the fact that there could have been more things implemented to this app to make it better. The app is very small and there isn't much too it which some might say makes it better. An idea that was floating around in my head while messing around with this app was that it could use a Category option to where you could sort all of homework, projects, tests etc.

Read the full review here. The review is very long and I didn't want to take up the whole front page of the social blog here.  Hope you enjoyed my review.  And I will be back with more design and review posts for the Social Blog.

Is unibody worth the upgrade?

Apple made a splash recently updating their entire notebook line with the unibody enclosure, crafting entire laptops out of a single piece of aluminium. The upgrade is noticeable offering better heat distribution, a more durable body, and a slimmer profile. Of course the unibody is an improvement over previous enclosures, but is upgrading to a new machine, for this design improvement, worth the price?

In short, I don't believe it is. I have the previous generation macbook pro and I would not upgrade to a new machine at this time. Why? The cost is too great and the gains too small to justify the upgrade. But this puts new consumers in a pickle; buy a new machine or save some money and buy the previous generation. If cost is no issue of course go for the new design but if you are on a budget the savings is more valuable than the small performance gains. In fact, if you are looking at a macbook you may be able to purchase a more powerful, previous generation, macbook pro for around the same price. If you are on the fence I suggest checking out the video embedded bellow. It compares the two machines, in detail, in glorious HD.
