iPhone 4 MyWi vs. Comcast Cable Speed Test

MyWi is an app that turns your jailbroken iPhone into a hotspot. That's right. A wireless router that any device can connect to. It includes WEP security so you can create a password to keep others off your data plan. This along with 3G Unrestrictor are two of the most compelling reasons to jailbreak. You can get MyWi through RockApp in Cydia. While its expensive for an app at $19.99 this is very cheap if it leads you to buy a wifi only iPad as opposed to a 3G one or if you pay for internet access at places like airports. For a more in depth review. Here I did a speed test comparing download speeds on my iMac using the 3G connection on my iPhone 4 with MyWi and my Comcast cable connection through a Linksys router.

iPhone 4.0 - Further Evidence Why You Should Jailbreak

So a lot of people are singing the praises of iPhone OS 4.0. Even David tweeted, "Multitasking! Finally!!!" and "Folders? Thank you!!" Really? I'd be interested in hearing why you haven't chosen to jailbreak. You are certainly smart enough. It's 100% legal and there is no risk as you can always restore through iTunes. Multitasking has been around months and folders for years with jailbroken iPhones or iTouches. Now if 5.0 would add tethering, custom sounds to SMS, Mail, sliders etc and 3G unrestrictor then maybe there wouldn't be a compelling reason to jailbreak. In case you forgot here is a quick video of why (not how) to jailbreak. As for other thoughts on 4.0, well Game Center sounds like a tremendous idea for Apple. Apple is now a major player in gaming and adding a social network is smart. Think XBOX Live. As for iAd, I'm not a fan. The first "non-intrusive" advertisement I come across will certainly be the first.
