Audio Test: Zoom H1 vs Blue Snowflake vs Canon ELPH 300HS

With my recent purchase of the Zoom H1, I was personally curious as to how it stacked up compared to my old microphone, the Blue Snowflake. While doing the audio test, I figured it would be helpful to you 300HS owners to compare that internal microphone as well. What do you think?

Obviously, the Zoom H1 wins this microphone showdown with the Blue Snowflake coming in at second place. The Canon Powershot ELPH 300HS dose have surprisingly good audio quality for the price of the camera, however. With a little audio editing in iMovie, GarageBand or Final Cut, you could get some surprising results from that tiny little camera!

Unboxing: Zoom H1 Handy Recorder Microphone

The Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS has taken the tech community on YouTube by storm in the past few weeks with many major video makers buying the camera. But before there was the 300 HS, there was the Zoom H1 by Samson. I must admit that I have now jumped on the bandwagon in an attempt to try out this sub $100 microphone. The low price will be quite attractive for many and still deliver professional audio quality to any camera setup. Watch as I unbox the Zoom H1 and give a quick rundown of why I picked up this guy.

If you have any specific questions regarding this microphone or my camera setup in general, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Record Video with a Canon Rebel XSi (450D)

This video shows you how to enable movie record on the Canon Rebel XSi or any camera with live view. The following is a written tutorial on how to do it.

Step One: Download the program EOS Camera Movie Record here. If you're on a mac, download 0.1.9 Beta 2 because it is that last update that supports macs. If you're on a PC, download the latest version available.

Step Two: Plug your camera into your computer and turn it on. Make sure the setting is not on auto.

Step Three: Open up the program. To record, click the "write" button. Once you're done, click "Stop." To learn about all the features, watch the video above.

Panasonic to release a HD Recorder

Panasonic, a big brand in the UK for consumer appliances in the UK, have released their own HD DVD recorder. The 'DMR-XS350' is to feature HD recording to the 250GB hard drive (which I don't think is enough for HD files) which then can be copied to disk. One special feature of the DMR-XS350 is that you can watch Youtube videos and view pictures on Google's Picasa via the VIERACAST platform. Twin TV turners allow 2 programme recording, or watch 1 programme and record another. The DMR-XS350 will also feature a high definition chroma processor, which to me sound like one of the best?, is compatible with the UK's freesat service, SD memory card and USB ports, along with a power saving utility!

Want one? It'll set you back around £620 ($999)
