Source: Microsoft Surface and Smart Covers Weren't Ready

After yesterday's Microsoft event, I was left wondering with several questions. First of all, one of the biggest differentiator between the Microsoft Surface was something known as a Smart Covers (known individually as Touch and Type Covers): basically Microsoft's keyboard for the Surface. It is a 3mm thin cover (the Type Cover is slightly thicker) that doubles as a keyboard, and therefore, allowing people the portability option of just carrying the Microsoft Surface with Smart Cover slapped on top instead of an iPad and MacBook Air. It is brimmed with features - having a touchpad, accelerometer and all sorts of cool technology within. But here's the catch. Microsoft did not allow journalists to play, or even touch a working unit of the Microsoft Surface with Smart Cover. If this aspect of the tablet is so important to them, why not let people judge it for themselves? Well, here's why: It's not ready. A low-key source from the event emailed me saying Microsoft had specific instructions not to let anyone touch a booted up unit of the Microsoft because it wasn't ready yet. No wonder they weren't able to pull an Apple and say here it is, it's available today and you can pick it up for $xx. No wonder all the technology websites and blogs reporting an hands-on did not actually mean hands-on, but rather a hands-off.

Programs That Wacom Bamboo Tablets Work On

I get asked the question all of the time,"What programs will that tablet work on?" The answer is quite simple, any program that you can use a mouse on will work with it, just install the drivers first. The tablet literally works as a mouse only with pressure sensitivity.

The iPad 3 Announcement: What to Expect

There have been, so far, many rumors leading up to the iPad 3 announcement, expected to take place on March 7th. Many of these rumors detail new features like an upgraded processor, quad-core, LTE, etc.. But what exactly can we expect from the iPad 3 announcement?

First of all, the processor. While an A6 processor would be the logical next-generation processor in Apple's sequence, there has supposedly been a leaked iPad 3 part containing the processor, which has been dubbed the "A5x". This has lead to some speculation that the processor will be an improved version of the current A5 processor rather than a new A6 processor. The A5x Processor shown on a leak part of, supposedly, the iPad 3. Apple is expected to announce the iPad 3 on March 7th.

A lot of Android devices have started to get quad-core processors recently. This has lead some to believe that Apple will be doing the same with their iPad 3. The extra 2 cores could significantly improve their processor performance.

Unlike many rumors that came along prior to the iPad 2 launch, we don't expect a change in screen size. However, a retina display would be very possible. Just as we saw with the iPhone and iPod Touch, this would improve the resolution on the iPad's display. The current display, running at a resolution of 1024 x 768, would get more pixels, supposedly upgrading it to a 2048 x 1536 screen resolution. This would make text and images, especially games, more sharp and allow for even more detail. "Real Racing 2" being played on an iOS device with a retina display. A retina display could be coming to the iPad 3.

As we've also heard, Apple has been hiring LTE engineers. It is a possibility that we may see this technology come to the 3G iPad. Many speculate that the delay of the implementation of this technology has been caused by possible reduced battery life. Or the technology could simply be too new. We have constantly seen Apple hold-off on including brand-new technology in their products in the past.

As in the iPhone 4S, improved cameras may be an option as well. Siri is unlikely, however. As always, there will be more last-minute rumors that will surely circulate in the days directly before the announcement.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Unveiled

Not to anyone's surprise, today at Mobile World Congress 2012 Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 10.1. Thankfully, this larger Note doesn't feature phone capabilities, and is only a tablet. To anyone who was hoping to catch a glimpse of someone with a 10-inch device to their ear, it's not going to happen...yet. The Note 10.1 does make use of Samsung's S-Pen (stylus), which I find to be more practical on this size of screen. No pricing or availability details were revealed, but lets hope for Samsung's sake that they have better luck with Apple this time around.
