Overview: Microsoft Kin 1 and Kin 2

Microsoft announced Monday that they would be releasing two new phones to the Verizon network. The two phones are named the Kin 1 and Kin 2. Both of these phones were designed for primary use with social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace.

The Kin 1 is designed in the shape of a beefy hockey puck that slides up to reveal a hidden QWERTY keyboard. The Kin 1 also features 4GB of Memory, QVGA Display, and an astounding 5 Megapixel Camera that includes an LED Flash.

However, the Kin 2 is oval shaped with well rounded edges. This device features 8GB of Memory, full QWERTY keyboard, QVGA Display, and an even more amazing 8 Megapixel Camera including LED Flash.

Again, both devices are aimed at providing a new experience to "Social Media" by allowing users to stream to the homepage of social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace.

To wrap up, both the Kin 1, and 2 are very ergonomic in both design and functionality. They both have easy to use keyboards, texting, and calling features. Additionally, they are mixed with a big camera, LED flash, Bluetooth, WiFi, and large internal memory.

iPhone to Verizon? Why it Wouldn't Benefit Me

There has always seemed to be rumors about the next generation iPhone or 4G to be on Verizon service, breaking away from just AT&T, but if that was to happen it wouldn't affect me. I like in an area of the continental United States where there is really not any good Verizon or AT&T coverage! I have AT&T and am in complete white not blue nor red on the coverage map below:

However, if the iPhone did go to Verizon my connection might be a bit better since there is more red around it than blue. One good thing that would come out of the switch would be that I could get a MiFi, which is a mobile WiFi hotspot. Also, if I happen to get bored of the iPhone, which won't happen, I could get a Droid or another great Android phone.

As always, thanks for reading!

Will the iPad gain more hardware features before it's released?

There is a possibility that the Apple iPad will gain more features before it is released. The current rumors going around is that the iPad was intended to have a camera, but, ultimately, Apple decided not to include it, because it was glitchy, or wasn't implemented well.

I disagree.

Just about every other Apple product has a camera built in. It would require almost no effort do put one into the iPad. In fact, there is a hole in the iPad frame that perfectly fits and iSight camera. I think that Apple truly did intend to put a camera into the iPad, but it wasn't because it was glitchy, or didn't work. I think it was done to speed up FCC approval.

The FCC said that they're concerned that the iPad is going to bring down AT&T due to the increase of data traffic. Because they have to approve every cellular device before it can go on sale, they would have the power to halt the iPad if they saw it a a threat to cellular bandwidth, due to major data usage. The iPhone OS 3.2 SDK showed support for video calling, and most likely, if the iPad had a camera, that's what it would do. Video streaming takes up huge amounts of bandwidth, and the FCC would definitely not approve the iPad if it could do video calls.

My father is a holder of numerous patents, and deals with government regulations very often in his medical practice. According to him, it is easier to get the bare minimum approved, and slowly add on more and more features. If you try to get all the features approved at once, chances are, they will not be approved.

I think once Apple gets the iPad approved by the FCC… Read more

Review: HTC Droid Eris: Widgets

The widgets in Android all run fairly smooth. There are plenty of options from the marketplace, most being free. They are great for running in the background on one of your home screens and they can sometimes be more useful than full apps. Watch the video for hands-on with some, and how to install them.

Palm Pre Plus on Verizon

Ever since Sprint got the Palm Pre, it has been rumored and now confirmed that Verizon would receive the same in early January 2010. It is not early, but Verizon still got the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi. The only difference really is the name. Just add the word ‘plus’ to the end of both names.

The only physical difference would be on the Palm Pre Plus. They have taken away the “click” button and replaced it with a multi-touch surface. I would rather have an actual button to touch, but that’s just me. Software they say, the WebOS should run much faster and support better gaming.
