Best Weather-Tracker: Review (Windows)

For a long time I didn't understand the point of weather programs. Whether online, on the TV or on my phone, it just seemed pointless to me. After all, who can really predict the weather with certainty? I was always told that the only way to get a real prediction of the weather was to look out my window and hope the clouds would pass without rain.

These days, it is different. A 48-hour forecast is extremely reliable thanks to advances that have been made in the last decade. Even a five day forecast can be fairly accurate, as more sensitive tools have been developed to check things like bariatric pressure, climate patterns and more. What we have today is a much different animal than what we had twenty years ago.

Now the question is: where can I get the most accurate and up-to-date weather information. For many of us, we like having a program we can take a look at before heading out the door or making plans. So I have gone through many programs for everything from my smartphone to my television.

Of everything that I have tried, my favorite app has been a Windows program called sWeather.

Note, there are other weather related apps we features earlier:

Ten Reasons Why You Should Consider Using A Facebook Messenger

(The review is submitted by the creator as an uptade to this video review)

Recently, Microsoft announced that they are abandoning the Windows Live Messenger instant messaging product and AOL has also announced that they are going to discontinue the development of AIM. These recent developments are somewhat indicative of what's happened in the instant messaging space over the past few years - traditional instant messaging networks and polygamy networks have increasingly become less relevant and Facebook has emerged as a dominant force in the instant messaging market.

Whilst Facebook chat initially emerged as a method by which to communicate with your Facebook friends through your web-browser, using your web-browser is not the only way in which you can communicate via chat with your friends. Indeed, you can also use your Windows computer desktop and you're Smartphone.

So, why should you consider using a Facebook Messenger Application on your Windows desktop?

Photoshop Lesson: Editing with Adjustment Layers

Yes I know it has been a while since I wrote anything for the site. But don’t worry; I come barring a helpful video for those who want to learn some cool tricks with Photoshop. I won’t go into detail on my absence, but I am glad to be back.

In this video I will show you how to use a cool little feature called “Adjustment layers”. What are adjustment layers? They are layers that are considered to be filter effects with a masking ability. Meaning you can fix the image through a separate layer without having to use the undo feature so many times. Why is this helpful? Your history on Photoshop only goes back so far. Once you reach the limit of the undo button, there is only so much you can do.

Not only does this make adding and removing effects so much easier, but it also provides an excellent end result. There is a catch, to use this feature you need to have the brush tool selected. From there you only use two colors. Black and white. One removes the effect and the other adds the effect back.

There will be more videos like this to come. In fact the next video will be handling some image fixing tools.

Windows 8 on MacBook

Whilst Microsoft's new operating system Windows 8 is still under development, it's hard to resist a sneak look and feel for it. I decided to install the consumer preview of Windows 8 onto my white MacBook. Is it usable on a laptop? What works and what doesn't? The results are surprising. I found Windows 8 to run great on my Late-2006 White MacBook. In some instances, it runs faster than Mac OS X Lion. All my IO worked and wireless worked out of the box. The only issues I did have, however, was the iSight webcam and the graphics. Following the Boot Camp instructions, I used a set of drivers given by Apple for Windows 7. All those drivers did work with the exception of graphics and the webcam. I later found the driver for the graphics later but have not tried the iSight webcam driver. My GPU is the Intel GMA 950, the Windows 7 driver worked like a charm. Want to see more of Windows 8 running on my MacBook? Check out the video below. If you have any questions, make sure to leave a comment and I'll gladly answer them for you.

MetroTwit - the best Twitter Client for Windows?

While I am waiting upon my new Mac mini to arrive along with my new display, keyboard and mouse, I have had an empty desk so I decided that I would dig out my old Dell Optiplex GX620 USFF Pentium 4 machine to use for some basic Windows tasks.

Now - I have been suprised by the sheer speed of this machine so I have been using it on a daily basis as my primary (and only) desktop, but as I was used to OS X, I had no choice but to use the default Twitter web application as there is no "Twitter for Windows" application.

I have never really been a fan of TweetDeck (before and after Twitter took over) so I decided to hop onto Google, and do my research.

While stuck in a Google search loop, I finally found MetroTwit. It looked amazing, and so I hit the download button on the MetroTwit website.

Once installed, you will be greeted with a Metro UI-themed window - as expected. What can I say? It looks amazing, and is very quick when posting/loading tweets. The application lets you change the UI style and background colors. The default scheme is black text on white with blue highlights, but I like the white on black with blue highlights...if you understand what I mean.

The application boasts many user-customizable settings as well as pop-up notifications.

The only real con I could say is the minimum window width. I prefer the single column Twitter clients like Twitter for Mac which maintain a thin profile. This is why I don't like TweetDeck. While it does have width limitation, you can still manage columns so it doesn't take up all of your screen.

I can't recommend this application any more. It's quick, completely free, looks amazing, and so customizable.

Try it out at www.metrotwit.com.
