Non iPad Tablets: Just Stop

The iPad has won. It's over. Why other companies still want to continue making tablets that are unresponsive, useless, and just bad is a mystery. It seems that Apple are the only people who can make touch screens, as all, repeat all of the non-Apple touch screens I have tried have been really really awful.

The other issue of course when you have a tablet is what OS you have and honestly, again Apple easily triumphs. They came up with the whole app idea, Android has less Apps, and even with the new Gingerbread update, it still won't cut it.

Besides, the Apple UI is just so much nicer. Nice little icons, whereas Android has several different screen layouts and is, let's face it, pretty disorganised. So if hardware wise AND software wise other tablets are not up to standard, the other companies should just save the effort and try to innovate and invent something new for once.

Apple are always the company who come out with the revolutionary ideas, and everybody steals them. Windows 7 is basically a really bad, virus filled version of Mac OS X and to honest, I'm surprised Apple haven't launched a big lawsuit against Windows yet. I'm not an Apple fanboy in any way, but I do think they easily make the best products (even though a few, like the new Nano, are horrible to be polite). My message to other companies is simple, to recap: INNOVATE and DON'T STEAL.

FaceTime for Mac Demo

Today's post is about FaceTime for the Mac. It was announced on October at Apple's "Back to the Mac" event. Facetime is a video chat client that used to be mobile only. So, only an iPhone 4 and an iPod Touch 4th generation could use the service. But Apple has brought it back to the mac. Unfortunately for the PC users out there, Apple hasn't made the PC FaceTime client quite yet. I predict they will in the future. So, on FaceTime for Mac you can make calls from Mac to another Mac, Mac to iPhone 4, or Mac to iPod touch 4 over Wi-Fi. I think it's a pretty solid video chat service, but I think it has a little ways to go before it reaches it's full potential.

Tek Nation Episode 8: "Back to the Mac" Event

Today I'm presenting you with episode 8 of Tek Nation. We're also in a MacBook Air, because it may get updated come October 20th. In this episode we talked about the BlackBerry Playbook, Windows Phone 7, and the "Back to the Mac" event.

The BlackBerry Playbook has potential to be a very legitimate contender to the iPad. I think the specs for the device are pretty impressive. It packs a 7-inch capacitive display, a 1 GHz Dual-Core Processor, and runs on BlackBerry Tablet OS. For more information please refer to the video.

The "Back to the Mac" event came as a bit of surprise to me. Usually Apple doesn't schedule events right after their annual music event until January. I hope to see an update to iLife. I'd really like an iWeb update and/or an iMovie update. I use iMovie to edit my videos, so I'd like more features to play around with. Rumor has it that we may also see an update to Mac OS X. I've heard it will be called Lion. I don't know what to expect with the new operating system will improve or do different than previous versions, but it will be very interesting to see. Many technology websites such as Engadget, Gizmodo and Technobuffalo are also reporting that we may see an update to the MacBook Air as well as the MacBook.

Windows Phone 7 was unveiled by Microsoft last week. It's a very interesting platform. The interface looks pretty great. It looks almost identical to the Zune HD. You can also access Xbox LIVE content right from your phone. I use Xbox LIVE like many others, so this feature could potentially go a long way. For more information, please refer to the video.

1Password Coming to Windows

I have always been recommending 1Password as *the* Password manager to use for the Mac and the iPhone. Whenever Windows users approach me and ask what the best is, however, there aren't that many dominant password managers for Windows. But after almost two years of me using 1Password and telling Windows users to use KeePass, it looks like 1Password is finally being ported to Windows. This means that you will be able to sync passwords between your Mac and your Windows machine, which will be awesome for those who just use Windows as a virtual machine and want quick access to their Passwords. No pricing or final release date has been announced, but I'm sure it will be the same price as the Mac Version. You can download the beta here.

Overview: Microsoft Kin 1 and Kin 2

Microsoft announced Monday that they would be releasing two new phones to the Verizon network. The two phones are named the Kin 1 and Kin 2. Both of these phones were designed for primary use with social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace.

The Kin 1 is designed in the shape of a beefy hockey puck that slides up to reveal a hidden QWERTY keyboard. The Kin 1 also features 4GB of Memory, QVGA Display, and an astounding 5 Megapixel Camera that includes an LED Flash.

However, the Kin 2 is oval shaped with well rounded edges. This device features 8GB of Memory, full QWERTY keyboard, QVGA Display, and an even more amazing 8 Megapixel Camera including LED Flash.

Again, both devices are aimed at providing a new experience to "Social Media" by allowing users to stream to the homepage of social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace.

To wrap up, both the Kin 1, and 2 are very ergonomic in both design and functionality. They both have easy to use keyboards, texting, and calling features. Additionally, they are mixed with a big camera, LED flash, Bluetooth, WiFi, and large internal memory.
