Skype Video Calling for iPhone

FaceTime for the iPhone 4, iPod touch, and Mac changed the way we communicate with each other on a daily basis. It revolutionized human relationships. Not only can you ask the person your on the phone with, how they are, but you can actually see how they really are feeling. The only negative thing about Facetime is that you have to own an Apple product with a front facing camera.

Skype is a website that made free video calling between computers with a web cam. Their intention was Apple's exact intention with iChat. Well now iPhone 4 and iPod touch users can finally get in on the action. After a long and anticipating wait, Skype has finally announced free video calling on the iPhone 4/ iPod touch Skype app. So now, we can all take the basis of Facetime, and use it with anybody that owns a web cam and a Skype account. All you have to do is make a free Skype account, and download the free Skype app from the App store.

iPod Touch 4th Generation Review

Aesthetics

When you first turn on the device you will notice it's beautiful 3.5 inch Retina Display. Also, if your a first time user at the top is a camera that is normally used for pictures and FaceTime. On the silver back side you have another camera that can also be used for pictures, FaceTime and video.

Features

One of the most used features by me is the video recording which shoots in 720p video. Great for vlogging or just documenting some memories. The less used feature by me is FaceTime, which allows you to video chat with other iPod Touch's (4th Generation), iPhone 4's and Macs (with iSight cameras). I recently found another service Tango, also a video chatting service but this allows you to do via 3G and to other devices (such as Android phones).
Another feature used by most people is Game Center, basically Game Center allows you to play with your friends on compatible iOS 4 games. One feature not noticed by users is Gyro, this allows the iPod to detect advance movements; Provides a more precise gaming experience. If your interested in purchasing one you can do so here.

FaceTime for Mac Demo

Today's post is about FaceTime for the Mac. It was announced on October at Apple's "Back to the Mac" event. Facetime is a video chat client that used to be mobile only. So, only an iPhone 4 and an iPod Touch 4th generation could use the service. But Apple has brought it back to the mac. Unfortunately for the PC users out there, Apple hasn't made the PC FaceTime client quite yet. I predict they will in the future. So, on FaceTime for Mac you can make calls from Mac to another Mac, Mac to iPhone 4, or Mac to iPod touch 4 over Wi-Fi. I think it's a pretty solid video chat service, but I think it has a little ways to go before it reaches it's full potential.

FaceTime + Chatroulette = ?

Video calling has been taken to the next level. Chatroulette released in November last year was a great serviceuntil a whole bunch of immature people lucky enough to own a webcam joined in and made the whole approach to 'video nudity'.

However, ever since Apple released FaceTime for the iPhone and now the Mac, us geeks and technology inspired people of the web can join in and talk to one another without being paired with a 'video nudist'. You may be scratching your brains out by now wondering how this can be done but from Zach Holman comes Facelette

Facelette is a website in which you submit your cell/mobile phone number (iPhone) or email address (Mac) to the service and moments after you are paired with someone on the other side. I've not tried this (yet) but I predict it will take off soon, only if we can hope Apple get all into 'law fever' or close the whole site down.

Take note that you may want to create a new email for Facelette if you are thinking about using the service, but you still need to verify it with Apple's servers (which I still can't complete right now *frown*)

If you happen to join Facelette or use FaceTime on the Mac or iPhone, drop a comment on this post and tell us how you find it.
