Mac OSX 10.10 Revealed

There was a lot of interesting thing’s going on this week, such as the co-founder of the pirate bay getting arrested, or Justin.tv announcing that they are going to be deleting their video archives on June 8th. But one thing that really stood out was the WWDC Conference that was held on June 2nd. Although not a lot of hardware changes were announced, the software side of things did get some big announcements this week. For example the OSX10.10 Yosemite being shown at Apple’s keynote presentation. Although a lot of the changes that were made seemed to be in the visual department, some new features were added to give it some more hype. Giving the new updated OS more mobile controls, this version of the OSX line up is looking more promising by the day.

Mac OS X Mavericks Overview (Video Inside!)

Not long ago Apple released their latest update to the OS X software
line titled “Mavericks”. This new update was going to update some of the software that is already on your mac, and even add some new apps in the mix. Normally these kinds of updates cost around twenty to thirty dollars. In this case however, you can download the latest update from the app store for free. That’s right, this operating system update downloads and installs much like an application and it is free to the public. It can also be used as an upgrade from your older OS to a newer one. Although the price tag is awesome, what exactly did they add to this update that makes it shine from the rest? Let’s get started shall we?

One of the new features Mavericks offers, which is one of my personal favorites is the finder tabs. Normally you would have to open several windows and cycle through them to get from point A to point B to point C and it can become a mess real quick. However with the finder tabs you can open up several tabs in one finder window that you can also cycle through making it much easier to get from window to window. The best way to think of this is like an internet browser with its tab system. That’s exactly how it functions. For me this is useful because of how many windows I normally have open in one usage. So this can benefit other users as well.

Programming with Python: Strings and Functions cont

In today’s video, we are going to be going over strings and variable again, just to make sure that you have the general idea down. I would like to remind those who watch these videos to type as I type and not to copy and paste everything in the videos. I am not a professional, but I find it easy to learn with a more hands on experience rather than a you see what you get. I would also like to remind you that if you have any further interest in learning python ahead of the videos, then please go check this great online book so that you can read ahead. That book again, is called Learning python the hard way: http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/ Thanks for watching this series, and I hope you found it helpful in some kind of way.

Photoshop Tutorial: Animating

Now it has been a while since I last did a tutorial video for Photoshop, and today I come back with something a bit more useful when it comes to making an animated logo. In the video I demonstrate how to animate using a sprite sheet, but the concept is quite simple to understand altogether. All you have to do is animate frame-by-frame, or in this case layer by layer. There isn’t a whole lot I can really show you through this article that I did in the video. But I will try my best to recapture this moment for you in text form for those who don’t like watching an eight minute video. So without further distractions, let’s get started.

Is The MacBook Air Overpriced?

In the beginning of my research for buying a Mac computer, the first one I did want to have hands on, was the MacBook Air. After using my friend's for a month, I didn't like it at all. For what it brings to the user it is way overpriced. To learn why, read the rest of the article.

First of all, if you didn't know, the MacBook Air is a netbook. As Steve said "NetBooks are best at anything", and I definitely agree. Its price starts at 999$. Let me give you a quick speck review of the particular MacBook Air model.

Screen: 11"

Processor: 1.6GHz dual-core Intel i5

Ram: 2GB

Storage: 64GB

Graphic Card: Intel HD Graphics 3000

After carefully reading this model specks, do you still believe that the MacBook Air's price is logical? In my opinion, no. With 999$, the consumer can purchase a quad-core Windows laptop with four times better specks, or build a custom one, which is going to be as powerful as the 27'", quad-core iMac. I know it 's made by aluminum, it's very thin and light and it's perfect for traveling, but there are hundreds Windows netbooks which are thin and  light (Not made by aluminum of course), and they are perfect for traveling too. Those Windows netbook's price is 300$-450$ and bring to the user exactly what the MacBook Air can bring too.

Now you will wonder "Then why do people buy it?”. The answer is simple; it's because of the OS. Let me give you an example. Would anyone buy the iPhone 4S if it run iOS 3? No. Before purchasing a product after reviewing the specks, the user also wants the device to have a good operating system. For business people Mac OS X is the best OS, and if they travel a lot those people need a small computer running Mac.

For the Apple fun boys also, who are going to hate on me, I never said that the MacBook Air is a bad computer. It's the best netbook in the market. What I said is that it's way overpriced. So before you start trolling on me, please, take those words into consideration.

Thanks so much for reading my thoughts on this topic. If you have a different opinion on this, or if you have any questions based on this article, feel free to leave them in the comment section below, or mention me on Twitter @OrestGPap.
