Mac OSX 10.10 Revealed

There was a lot of interesting thing’s going on this week, such as the co-founder of the pirate bay getting arrested, or Justin.tv announcing that they are going to be deleting their video archives on June 8th. But one thing that really stood out was the WWDC Conference that was held on June 2nd. Although not a lot of hardware changes were announced, the software side of things did get some big announcements this week. For example the OSX10.10 Yosemite being shown at Apple’s keynote presentation. Although a lot of the changes that were made seemed to be in the visual department, some new features were added to give it some more hype. Giving the new updated OS more mobile controls, this version of the OSX line up is looking more promising by the day.

But let’s talk about some of the other news topics before diving into the good stuff. As mentioned before “The Pirate Bay” Co-Founder Peter Sundle was arrested on Sunday after evading the police for two years. For those who don’t know what “The Pirate Bay” is, it’s a large P2P torrent sharing site.  I won’t go fully into detail on what torrents are, but I would like to warn you that you can get into some serious trouble over these tiny files. Originally sentenced to one year in prison with millions of dollars in copyright claims, Peter Sundle avoided the police until he was arrested in Sweden. Now his sentencing went to eight months in prison, however the amount of money he owes because of the copyright claims has increased.

If you are a Justin.tv user, then this topic is important to you. Justin.tv a popular internet video streaming service announced two days ago that as of June 8th they will be deleting all video archives. So whatever video you have saved and have been trying to keep it for memory sakes, it is strongly suggested that you go and download/backup all those movies beforehand. Because one the cleaning is done, you won’t be able to get your movies back. Justin.tv isn’t the only one that does this however; on occasion I do get e-mails on Livestream explaining that they would do the same thing as well.

Now we can begin talking about the new features that Apple is showing for Yosemite. To give this topic justice, I highly suggest you go watch the keynote presentation for yourself on iTunes. It is free to download and watch. Aside from a major visual overhaul, one of the features is to continue whatever you’re working on from your computer on your tablet. This is accessed easily by swiping on the device. Another cool feature is to use your Mac as a caller ID and Speakerphone. You may be thinking that’s pretty silly to be using your expensive computer as a phone, but it does help. Say you’re working on a big project and can’t really take your eyes of the screen, now you wouldn’t have to glance down you can just look at your monitor to answer the call. Now you can see Android users chat bubbles in the iChat application on your mac, as well as an added Airdrop feature to your computer from your mobile device. One thing I would like to mention is the flat design this offers. Although I am not a big fan of it, it does prove to be interesting.

Now the last topic isn’t that interesting. Google plans on spending $1 Billion dollars on satellites to give people who don’t have internet… well, internet! Although I do find these kinds of ideas cool, kind, and interesting. I couldn’t help but think about the drone idea that Facebook was planning on launching the very same year. It’s kind of ironic if you think about it. So did you find any of this useful? For more information click the links below, and please let me know what you thought of this article/video.
