How to Block ads in Google Chrome

We're always going to have to deal with advertisements on the web, but is it safe to say that there's a way that we don't have to deal with advertisements? Because there's many ways on how to block advertisements on many browsers. It's easy to get ad-ons in popular browsers such as Safari and Firefox, however Google Chrome is a new browser that's barely a year old and it doesn't have any ad-ons so to get ad-ons you'll have to do some hacking and that's what we're going to do today.

I get annoyed by the pop-up ads on some YouTube videos that bother you when you're watching a YouTube video. I did some research on the web and I found a very easy way on how to block advertisements on Google Chrome. Here's how to do it.

  1. Download and install Privoxy.
  2. Click on the wrench icon in the upper right corner of Chrome.
  3. Go to Options>Under The Hood>Change Proxy Settings.
  4. In the Internet Properties dialog's Connections tap, click on "LAN settings".
  5. Check off "Proxy Settings" and in the address setting type 127.0.0.1 and in the port type 8118.
  6. You can also check off "Bypass proxy for local settings" if you have the option.
  7. Click "Ok" and restart Google Chrome.

Privoxy runs in the background and it is found in the Windows task bar. Sometimes Privoxy may block a type of video format or sometimes even block a webpage. If it blocks something that you don't want it to block you can always click on "Anyway" where it tells you that that the object has been blocked. You can also right click at the icon in the task bar and disable it from blocking the ads.

This is stupid. It's not that bad! Just ignore them. It's not like they're in the way or anything.

@GoogleChromeADLover They get in the way of the video that you're trying to watch, plus some people have OCD and get bothered by little things like these.
