Top Ways To Lose Your Phone

lost phoneMobile phones seem to be one of the most commonly lost items, not a day goes by when you don’t see a plea on Facebook for ‘everyone to send their numbers because I lost my phone again’ and nightclubs and train companies report that the biggest single item in their lost property are mobile phones – are we all getting clumsy? How are people losing their phones? Well here are the some of the reasons insurance companies hear when people report their phone is no longer with them.

I left it on the roof of my car

This is easily done, you can imagine doing it yourself: you’re talking when you get to your car, you end the call take your keys out of your bag or pocket and need to put the phone down to open the door – the nearest flat surface? The roof of the car and there it sits, until you drive off that is when you might see it fly off or usually it’s only when you get home and revisit your steps that the realisation sets in.

I dropped it in the toilet

Again, easily done if you follow advice and keep your phone with you at all times and you store your mobile phone in a pocket.  You bend down and ‘splash’ – there’s your phone going for a swim.  It doesn’t always happen like that, plenty of people admit to texting, being online or even making calls whilst on the loo which is going to give the opportunity for a wet outcome.

I left it in the back of a cab

Often done at the end of a lively night out, you’ve called a cab and you’re relieved to be in it, with your mobile phone still in your hand. You’re also a little tired and emotional and maybe not paying as much attention as normal.  Plus the back of a taxi seems to have seats that suck in your belongings and it’s not until the next morning when you’re trying to piece the night (and your sore head) together that you realise.  Hopefully the taxi driver has found it and you can be reunited with your phone, nothing they can do about your hangover though!

My baby has chewed it

Anyone with a small baby knows that if you’ve found something that keeps them occupied whilst they are teething it is a godsend.  Often that thing is your phone with shiny surfaces and the right size for a little hand – they play with it and you both get some relief.  That is until one day you come to use it and you realise that it’s not baby slobber resistant.

My dog has ate it

As above but with bigger teeth and more often than not they’ve taken it when you weren’t looking…

So there we have some of the reasons why people lose / break / misplace their phones however your phone insurance won’t cover negligence so make a note of the above and make sure it’s not you next time.
