Google Drive Review (Video Included)

Who doesn’t love free file storing and sharing application? Not too long ago we looked into another kind of file storing and sharing service known as Dropbox. It wasn’t one of the best services but it is up there. But later down the road I started to see more and more advertisements for Google Drive (read: what is Google Drive?). Through their applications it looked like nothing more than a bunch of office applications in one program, so I decided to do a little more research into it and found out it was another file storing and sharing service offered by Google.

So other than the office applications what makes Google Drive different from Dropbox? With Dropbox you only get a couple of gigs of storage space free. But with Google Drive however you get a whopping 15 GB free with upgrade plans to increase the amount of storage space offered. You also still have the ability to share your files with your friends as they can share with you. But I think to share it has something to do with networks but I am not a hundred percent sure on that yet.

“So what about the office applications then, are they any good?” That’s actually a good question. In a way if you are using the word document application for writing a story or review, the yes it would be good. There isn’t a lot of designer’s choice in the matter of these applications though. One of the best part about these applications is the ability to let your friends add or edit or do live edits with you to fix the works you have up there. I am still new to the Google trend so I couldn’t test this feature out personally.

However by the looks of it, it does look pretty interesting to say the least. It could make work purposes for writers and editors a group of projects gone wild. So what about the rest of the applications? There is a Presentation application that works much like Power Point, but again does lack some of the choices you would have in an office suite. But that’s not completely a bad thing. It works. Then there is an application much like excel, then Pixlr editor which is a attempt at Photoshop, and a drawing application. These are what they are supposed to be. In which for a free office application it does work for what it is supposed to.

Over all Google Drive is a very unique take on what combining social media and file sharing services could be like in the general education or business world. Being able to stay in contact with your friends no matter where they are and still be able to work on that big project idea you guys have been going for, it would work much like that. It’s free and very useful and even has those awesome mobile applications to assist you on the go. You can even download software for your computer for both windows and Macintosh. So if you are in need of a new and different kind of file sharing service application, why not give Google Drive a try? It’s free and does the job quite nicely.
