iPhone/iPod Touch 2.2.1 Jailbreak (video)

Recently a new firmware update for iPhone and iPod Touches was released; firmware 2.2.1. This firmware, unlike it predecessors 2.2 and 2.1, isn't a host to a bevy of new features, but instead is offered more so as stabilization software. Even though there isn’t much changed in this software, I just like many others I'm sure is fond of updating my phone; more-so in hopes of finding something new. This essentially will be my run down of the entire process from start to finish with a link to a Youtube video where I show you how its done using the software Quickpwn.

Before I start, you will need to know a few things,

  • this update will disable the Yellown0w software unlocks, as well as any others
  • will permanently upgrade your baseband to the newer version. In order to not risk this, follow step outlined specifically for the Pwnage tool, and not for Quickpwn.
  • Make sure your phone is NOT in airplane mode

For those of you using a unibody Macbook or Macbook Pro, these following steps are crucial to you. Navigate to the Apple Developer Connection (ADC) website and register to become a free member there. From there navigate to the following page (http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/download/usbdebug.html) and download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-315.4-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension). Also download the “IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55” image and Quickpwn.

Once completed, update your iPhone or iTouch as you normally would from within iTunes. Disconnect all USB equipment and install the first disk image we downloaded from the ADC site.

**Note: this does not restore your Mac to the 10.5.5 software, just you chipsets I/O drivers to the 10.5.5 state in order to recognize the i-“insert device here” is in DFU mode**

Restart, connect only necessary peripherals (i.e. keyboard, mouse and iPhone/iTouch at most), and run Quickpwn following the onscreen directions.

**Note this does not remove any prior data or settings from the phone**

Once completed, close everything out, install the second disk image we downloaded from the ADC site and restart your Mac again to restore the I/O chipset drivers to the 10.5.6 state and reconnect all you peripherals. You have now successfully completed the jailbreak process for the iPhone or iTouch of any generation.

Twitter Apps

Everyday I always hear people talking about Twitter. So I decided to test out four apps on my iPhone, use them, and tell you what I think about them. Right now, I am using Twitterrific for the iPhone and this is the Twitter app that I am going to stick with. All four of these apps were free, but keep in mind that there are many other Twitter apps on the App Store. For example, you can get Tweete for three dollars but I wasn't that big of a fan of the user interface. So I downloaded four Twitter apps, Twitterrific, TwitterFon, Twinkle, and Tweetlator.

Twitterrific

I really like the user interface of this app, it nice and simple. The notification sound makes it a lot more fun to see what your friends are up to. You can post tweets and pictures using TwitPic with ease. If you get a reply, the color of the tweet background will be brown. If you get a direct message, the color of the tweet background will be blue. I think this app is pretty cool and this is the one that I will stick with because it's my favorite Twitter app.

TwitterFon

This is another great app right next to Twitterrific. It also has a nice and simple user interface with I love. However, I'm not a big fan of of the white background whenever you're seeing other people's tweets, but this is just me.  Everything like your replies, messages, friends are located at the bottom. This makes is very organized and more easier to use. You can post tweets and pictures using TwitPic with ease. One thing that also bothers me is that it doesn't have a fun notification sound like Twitterrific does. I like this app and I know a lot of people also do, but I don't think it's for me.

Twinkle

This was an app that I wans't too big of a fan of. In my opinion, the user interface was not so good. Maybe it's just me though beause I'm a big fan when it comes to simplicity because I easily get distracted with all the colors and different images around. One feature that I really like is there nearby friends, what it does is it uses your GPS chip to find other people's tweets from a chosen number of mile radius. It's also has a very nice notification sound. This app is somewhat pretty cool, but I'm not a big fan of all the different colors and images around. Keep in mind this is only me, and my opinion.

Tweetlator

This was another great app that I really enjoyed using. It has a very organized and simple user interface which I love. It has more features than the rest of the apps such as Featured Tweeters etc. However, I am following a lot of people and this app doesn't really display a lot of tweets so I can easily miss someone's tweet. Also, it doesn't have a fun notification sound. It's okay in my opinion, but I really don't see myself using this app.

So I hope this helped out some of you guys on choosing your Twitter app. Personally, I like the Twitterrific app the most so this is the one that I am going to stick with.

New MacBook Pro 17-inch delayed for two weeks

Engadget has reported that the new 17-inch MacBook Pro has been delayed for two weeks (February 19th.) Apple has been sending emails to all customers who pre-ordered the new laptop saying: "wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer than we projected." Apple didn't give a reason why there delaying there new product, but I believe it has something to do with the new 8 hour built-in battery that is in the new MacBook Pro.

What ever it is I hope Apple fixes it as soon as possible.

Also, If any other news about this dilemma occurs I will report it immediately.
