Pre-Order Snow Leopard

For those of us MacHeads out there who are eagerly anticipating the release of Snow Leopard, Amazon sympathizes. They are currently allowing users to pre-order Snow Leopard including bundles with with iLife ’09 and iWork ’09. The downside is that Amazon is only selling upgrade versions for Leopard, so if you have any other OS you'll have to wait for Apple. Whether you have Leopard or not, Snow Leopard is going to be an amazing operating system, so I suggest ordering your copy as soon as possible.

Kindle 2

With 3G connectivity and access to over 240,000 books, blogs and newspapers, the avid reader can't pass this up. The New Kindle 2 was launched yesterdy by Amazon, it sports a very thin and light design and is faster then the previous model. It also has a built in speaker with Text to Speech so it can read just about anything for you. The 3G connection which is free for life with the purchase is fast delivering you a whole book in under 60 seconds. Coming in at $359 it is a little on the pricey side but if you are an avid reader then you will definitely love this product.

Kindle For iPhone

Late on Tuesday, Amazon released Kindle for iPhone application, which you can get for free, from the iTunes Store.

The app does exactly what says. You can download Amazon e-books and read them right from your iPhone. And, while I have only had the application for a few minutes, I can say that it works surprising well.

There are a few drawbacks however.

- You cannot download books directly from the iPhone

-You can not sync any subscriptions to newspapers and/or magazines that you may have from the Amazon store.

-The iPhone app does not have and of the highlight/search features that you will find on the Kindle.

Honestly, I am perfectly okay with that. As someone who was ready to spend the $350 to buy a Kindle, I have no problem with Amazon having a few "Kindle exclusive" features.

I must say, that the timing of this app surprises me, being so close to the Kindle II. But it does send a clear message. Amazon interest is selling content, not Kindles. And by releasing this iPhone app, they are well on their way to making the Kindle store a huge success.

Job well done Amazon!
