Happy Birthday Steve!

It's February 24, 2010. That means that Steve Jobs celebrates his 55th birthday today.

I'd like to personally wish the guy a Happy Birthday, and that I hope he continues to churn out the great iProducts. I'm loving every little bit of them!!

No one has a track record like that of Steve Jobs, who has worked to revolutionize the computer, music, phone, and now tablet/portable computer market.

I'm not sure, though, if the ten billionth song downloaded on his birthday was a coincidence or not. Can anyone say conspiracy?

... (most likely not, though :D)

iTunes Reaches 10,000,000,000 Song Downloads

This deserves at least a small blog post.

Apple announced today that they sold their 10 billionth (billion with a b) song through iTunes. This is a huge milestone to them, and whomever downloaded the 10,000,000,00th song will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card. The winner of this contest hasn't been announced yet, and won't be for a few more days. I personally love iTunes and the ease of use it presents to its users.

So, from the Internet, congrats Apple. You've done well.

Why is the iPad's iBooks App a Download?

With the release of the iPad right around the corner, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the device itself. Yesterday evening, a friend and I were discussing some of the rumors that are surrounding the iPad. At some point in the discussion, he asked me if I had any idea why Apple made the the iPad's iBook application a download from the App store. When he said this, I had no idea what he was talking about, but when I went to the iPad page, this was stated very clearly.

The iBooks app is a great new way to read and buy books.1 Download the free app from the App Store and buy everything from classics to best sellers from the built-in iBookstore. Once you’ve bought a book, it’s displayed on your Bookshelf. Just tap it to start reading. The high-resolution, LED-backlit screen displays everything in sharp, rich color, so it’s easy to read, even in low light.

I couldn't understand why one of the iPad's main features would not be preloaded on the device itself. But after a few minutes of thinking, I was able to come up with a possible answer to the question. -- If you go into the App Store today, you will find several E-Book applications available for the current iPhone, which is exactly why Apple cannot preload the iBook App on the iPad.

As per Apple's current SDK agreement, developers cannot develop an App that competes directly with an Apple application that is standard on the device. If Apple preloaded the iBook App on the iPad, they would be forced to pull all of the other E-Book readers in the App store as per their own contractual agreement; making the iBook application "opt in" avoids this issue. This is purely speculation on my part, but I think this is a plausible answer to the question.

Why do you think the iPad App is not included with the iPad?

Apple's Laser Focus

When Apple sees the potential for a new technology, they don't take incremental steps to reach it. They hold off on all technology that will be released between now and then, and make the jump immediately. In fact, sometimes they are so ready for a new piece of technology that they implement it immediately, and it's so far ahead, that nobody has any use for it.

Review: Antenna Sleeve for MacBook Pro 13"

This is a really nice sleeve with great attention to detail. Antenna makes a variety of simple yet not boring looking sleeves for Mac (or PC). They use YKK Zippers to ensure great protection, and to give a satisfying clicky sound when zipping. This sleeve is highly recommended and the exterior pouch adds a bonus that you do not find on most sleeves.
