Amazon Kindle Gets Social Networking Skills

The Amazon Kindle was a revolutionary device when it was released. Then the iPad came along. Offering an e-reader in addition to a ton of other features that really gave buyers another device to consider. Now Amazon is trying to get their thunder back by introducing social networking updates that will enable Kindles to have both Twitter and Facebook support. Amazon has stated that these updates will allow users to share book passages on their various Twitter and Facebook profiles. Obviously, these aren’t the same kind of social networking capabilities that we’ve seen on some other devices, but this may be beneficial to some users out there who can make good use of these updates. These updates also allow users to lock their Kindle with a password and zoom PDF files. Amazon has said that these updates have already been sent to some Kindle users and is hoping for everyone to have these updates sometime in late May. Whether or not we’ll see this come to other e-reader such as the B&N Nook or the Sony E-Reader is yet to be known.

Spotify opens up link to Facebook

I've always loved music and Spotify especially for finding some of the unusual genres. Recently, this past week Spotify released a new version of its software for Mac and Windows (Linux if run under Wine) that spices up the user interface, social connectivity and overall peformance.

Spotify did 'scrobble' your played tracks over the the Last.fm platform that allows your friends to see what you're playing when you're listening to it. Now, Spotify have extended the usage to social network giant, Facebook. The new UI offers a profile for yourself, along with your Facebook profile photo pulled in and all of your friends using the Spotify application, whether they are part of the Spotify page or not.

After using it for just over an hour, I have become much a fan to the new changes and even more so to the Facebook feature. You can also import your own music library from the standard operating system music libraries such as iTunes and Windows Media Player.

You can try it if you live in SwedenNorwayFinlandthe UKFrance or Spain and unfortunately I don't have any invitations left.

New Facebook Layout

The good old Facebook is getting a redesign for about the second time in around six months. Facebook has become a big part, other than Twitter and MySpace, to contact friends and catchup on long lost relatives you may have. However, I do agree the new layout (right) looks nice and is pretty much easy to use, it has been changed a lot and as said by one of my friends "Facebook changing the layout again? I've only just learnt how to use this one!" is correct, they change it too many times.

Just thought to include this video, as it relates back to when Facebook was just beginning to grow.

With services such as Twitter,Facebook, and Myspace and a fine plethora of others, we can’t escape social networking, or can we? That is my question to you. Can we escape social networking? Now understand, I am not trying to drift people off the path of social networking. I am a member on Twitter and Facebook. So believe me, I am not discouraging social networking. So please reply with a comment or response with your opinion. Thank you!
