September iPod Touch Most Likely Without a Rear-Camera

iPod Touch (left) iPhone 4 rear camera (right)

Many rumors have been surfacing the web lately suggesting that we may see a rear-facing camera in the September release of the 4th generation iPod Touch. I'll confirm it right now- we aren't going to see one unless Apple makes some major design changes to this new iPod Touch.

This shouldn't be a surprise to you. Steve Jobs even told the New York Times why:

I also asked him why the Nano can record video, but can't snap still photos. That reason, he said, is technical: the sensors you need to record video are extremely thin these days -- thin enough to fit into the wafer-thin Nano. But the ones with enough resolution for stills, especially with autofocus (like the sensor in the iPhone), are much too thick to cram into a player that's only 0.2 inches thick.

At the WWDC, where iPhone 4 was released, Steve Jobs said they would ship 10s of millions of FaceTime devices. This was clealy hinting that the iPod Touch will include a camera. A front-facing camera that is.

If Apple did want to include a rear-camera on the iPod Touch, we would see a thicker, more squared-off design. Apple is also known for surprises as well. We could also see some new type of technology introduced that allows for a thinner rear- camera. Time will tell. What are your thoughts? Are you expecting a front facing or rear facing camera? Or both?

iPhone 4 - One Week In

I know there have been tons of iPhone 4 reviews over the past two weeks. Rather than be first to market I actually have used mine for a week and have a few strong opinions. Video includes retina display, multi tasking, folders, voice control, FaceTime and more! Please leave a comment :)

1) The reception "problem" is a non-issue. They sold over 2 million iPhone 4's now and there are maybe a few thousand people complaining. While too many, its not a big deal. My iPhone 3G dropped calls on a weekly basis. After a week I see no difference in reception.

2) The battery is WAY better. I haven't come close to running out compared to my iPhone 3G rarely making it from waking til midnight. To be fair my iPhone 4 doesn't have that many apps yet while my iPhone 3G has over 100 apps, but there is no doubt the battery is vastly improved.

3) Facetime is cool, but no reason to buy the iPhone 4. Between only being iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 compatible and having to use wifi you'll hardly ever use it. That said, once Skype integrates this feature and the iPhone 4 is jailbroken with 3G Unrestrictor - this becomes a killer feature.

4) The camera is worth the upgrade. Yes, it would be nice if it was eight megapixels like other smartphones. However, the difference between the 3G (and 3GS) and the iPhone 4 cameras is dramatic. Couple that with an average zoom and LED and its a major improvement. Not the best on the market, but so much better. If you have a 3G you can sell it on Ebay and upgrade for free.

Steve Jobs' Rude Emails with Angry iPhone User Deemed Fake

As some may have heard from numerous tech blog posts, there have been rumors of a disgruntled iPhone 4 user sending emails to Steve Jobs' (sjobs@apple.com) email address about complaints of horrible reception with the new iPhone and how he is being made fun of for choosing that phone that he will be switching to the Droid on Verizon. Supposedly, Steve Jobs counteracted these emails with replies such as "Calm down" and "It's just a phone". Apparently, the emails were first posted on Boy Genius Report and then sold to Apple Insider, not knowing they were Photoshopped!

These chain of fake emails were later exposed by Fortune via knowledge of a top Apple spokesman. In the end, Apple has officially informed bloggers that the emails were a hoax and as we earlier found out today, the iPhone 4's reception issues are a mere "software problem."

iPhone 4 antenna problem resolved?

Many of you people who were lucky enough to get your hands on Apple’s latest model of the iPhone were surely very surpised to see that the iPhone 4′s phone signal weakens when holding the bottom left side of the phone. Apple must have picked this up during pre-release tests, surely?

Apple has replied to all the people moaning about the issue and they say it is down to software rather than poorly designed hardware. Apple believes that it is simply just a display error and the phone actually has a much greater signal than displayed and promises a fix will be coming soon.

This “fix” is coming to all iPhone models, so it should display a better signal for even users with an older generation iPhone.

Apple stated “Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong.”

The rest of Apple's Press Release regarding the antenna issues can be read here.

It looks like the iPhone’s signal calculating ability is totally mixed up altogether and a fix should be coming soon to sort it all out. I'm sure that you iPhone 4 owners are very pleased to hear that.

iPhone 4 Reception/Service Issue Fix & iFrogz Case Unboxing

Please be aware this is only one fix. I understand that it is a bit ridiculous to have to purchase something to fix an issue on the device. Let's just hope that the 4.0.1 update fixes everything.

So with the release of the new iPhone 4, there have been a plethora of reports from buyers that when covering the three antennas, it cuts your service and drops calls. In this video I go over what the problem is and an easy fix for it, for now. There have also been some rumors that Apple will be releasing a fix for this in the next iOS Update 4.0.1, which you should be able to download this Monday.

I unbox an iFrogz case, and let me tell you, I highly recommend this case. It has a great look to it, gives protection to my phone, and solves service issues.
