Have Tablets Replaced Laptops?

Many people wonder, mostly including the "average customers', is if tablets have replaced laptops. Read the article to find out.

My answer once again is that it depends. It depends on "Why you use your laptop". If you use your computer for heavy graphic designing, heavy video editing with special effects, professional photo editing or even hardcore gaming (video games like Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3 etc.) the answer is definitely not. Tablet technology is pretty new and not that much sophisticated to just to those standards. If this is your occasion, I surely recommend buying a laptop. If you use your computer just for checking your e-mail, for light photo and video editing, and playing or using applications mainly as "time-killers", or using it as an Internet source while traveling, well a tablet must be your first choice. Tablets are smaller, thinner, and lighter, with beautiful displays up to 10", high quality cameras, 4G LTE support, and of course, they are way cheaper. Also for most of the tablets in the market, the user can purchase a Bluetooth keyboard which can plug into his/her device, and have a small netbook. That also means that the user can use his/her tablet by using either the touch screen or the keyboard & mouse (or even both, in the same time). If this is your occasion, a tablet is the best solution. Also iOS and Android (especially Android), are really advanced mobile operating systems which in this occasion, can definitely replace a desktop OS. Another advantage is that, all the mobile platforms have application stores, which the user can download, games, editing application and thousands other useful apps for his/her everyday life. Also some tablets have quad-core processors and quad-core graphics which definitely make them as powerful as some really expensive laptops.

The two tablets I suggest you buying in case you belong to the second occasion are:

1.) The New iPad (iOS 5)

2.) Asus Transformer Prime (Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich)

Both of them have excellent specks, 4G support, quad-core processors and graphics, and ship with the two most advanced mobile platforms in the world.

Tablets, compared to laptops, are new technology, which started back in 2010 with the release of the first generation iPad (the very first tablet made by Apple). In conclusion I believe, that "tablet technology” has a lot more to bring to the user, it will become a lot more advanced the next two years and I think that, by 2016, tablets will replace computers.

Why I Bought a 15" MacBook Pro

Many of you may have read the tweets but may not know the whole story. Last week, my 13" Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro suffered water damage. I was forced to replace it with a 15" Quad Core i7 MacBook Pro. Though the purchase was sudden, I am loving this machine. Here is the full explanation and my first impressions after a week with this computer.

Some of the main differences I've noticed is that the 15" screen can't be beat. Regardless of the larger screen size, this machine is still super portable and thinner than I was expecting. The speakers are also independent of the keyboard on the higher end 15" and 17" models so the sound quality is much better! I'm really appreciating the HD Facetime cam as well. Expect many more MacBook Pro videos in the near future.

Thanks for your continued support and I hope you are as excited as I am for my new project coming up!

Review of the MacBook Air

Today, I'm going to do a review of the MacBook Air.

Firstly, I want to mention that the MacBook Air is great for travel.  It's extremely thin, light-weight and can fit into most laptop bags and backpacks.  You could probably even fit it into a binder and no one would know you had it with you.

The MacBook Air is one of the thinnest laptops in the world and yet it also packs a punch of processing power.  It includes a 1.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 120GB SSD, and a Nvidia GeForce 320M.

The surprising thing with this laptop is how much it can do with specs like it has.  It's very good for everything from web browsing to basic movie editing in iMovie.  It can usually multitask very well and is comparable to my "27 i7 iMac in a lot of cases.  I've also used it to make screencasts before for my YouTube channel and it works very well while doing that.  It also think it isn't too bad for importing or exporting video in iMovie but not nearly as fast as my iMac and don't recommend it for advanced editing.

I also like the battery life.  The battery life isn't that great when the WiFi is turned on but when you turn off the Bluetooth and the WiFi it can last for usually about 2-3 hours on a full charge.

My Rating: 8/10

It's a great laptop but I wish it could have a better GPU.  Other than that, it's a great laptop!

Google Chrome OS Laptops Announced

Today, Google announced the new Google Chrome OS laptops and desktops.

Pictures of the 2 new laptops that have been announced that are going to be running Chrome OS.

These new laptops, dubbed "Chromebooks" by Google, are the new laptops that are going to be running Chrome OS.  Google has been known to have plans to unveil a line of Chrome laptops since they started sending out CR-48's, the prototype of the Chrome OS laptop concept, to beta testers.  There will be two models from Samsung and Acer, each including the Chrome OS, Wi-Fi, and the two that been unveiled so far will also include an HD webcam with a noise cancelling microphone.  The prices for these laptops start at $349 and go up from there to $499.

The current data options for the 3G Chromebooks.

Much like the CR-48, some of the Google Chromebook models from different manufacturers will include 3G from Verizon.  It is pay-as-you-go 3G starting with a completementary 100MB of data per month for free for two years like on the CR-48 laptops.  You can pay for more as you go along the paywall getting as low as $9.99 for a unlimited daypass and as high as $50 per month for 5GB of data on Verizon.  This is a good package for consumers that truely allows people to be connected to the cloud.  I'm also glad they threw in the free 100MB per month of data for these "Chromebooks."

What do you think of this? Post your thoughts in the comments.

Review: AviiQ Portable Laptop Stand

The AviiQ Portable Laptop Stand is one of the thinnest, but sturdiest laptop stands on the market. Heck, it is one of the thinnest, sturdiest anythings on the market. The design is great and it looks far from ugly. It makes a great travel or home companion with your MacBooks or any other laptop, but the steep pricepoint might be a turnoff. It comes in at $79.95, which is a bit much for what it is. Because of the price im gonna have to give it a 3.5/5.
