T-Mobile's Project Emerald: HTC Glacier - Dual Core Smartphone

Recently, T-Mobile has hinted towards one of their future endevor's entitled "Project Emerald". In Quarter 4 of 2009, T-Mobile had announced "Project Black", which entailed great budget plans for current and future T-Mobile customers. The buzz that follows this year's "Project" is that T-Mobile will be unveiling a new HTC smartphone to compliment their brand new HSPA+ network. With the addition of the Samsung Vibrant, it would seem that T-Mobile is attempting to take a step forward in the competitive smartphone race. It's obvious that T-Mobile has been behind in the race with its fellow carriers for having "The Best Smartphone" available, so hopefully this "Project Emerald" will help usher T-Mobile ahead of the pack.

It can be assumed that this rumored phone will take advantage of T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, considering the fact that T-Mobile does not currently have a HSPA+ enabled phone available on their network.

In this video, I discuss T-Mobile's Project Emerald, as well as the rumored HTC Glacier.

EVO? Not for me.

I gave the EVO a chance. I really did. I thought I would get a taste for Android after playing with my friend's Droid for hours one day. I thought I had found the phone to beat the iPhone. And after buying the Android device, I woke up and realized there is nothing that can beat the iPhone to this day. Here is my story.

I slammed $200 for the EVO and a new account with Sprint. Mistake #1: Getting on the Sprint network. I live in Kansas City, where their World Headquarters are, and within minutes I was getting dropped calls left and right. It may be just me, but you would think if your headquarters is here, your service would be second to none. Instead, it's dead last. I like the Android UI. I love it's marketplace. What I don't love, however, is the bloatware it comes with. These preinstalled apps from Sprint/Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile. And they are not easily, if at all, removable.

The EVO's battery life is a joke, and it takes hours to recharge. I was told that using DoubleTwist would allow me to put my iTunes songs off my Mac to the device. I spent four hours waiting for it to sync up, and when it finally did, it had only put 54 of my 5000+ songs on to the device. The music interface is a joke on Android as well.

Needless to say, I suddenly had a strong craving for my iPhone back. So I boxed the EVO back up, cancelled my Sprint service, and got my money back. If you ever feel like your iPhone is getting boring (like I stated in my previous post), switch to Android. You'll snap out of it and will be craving your iPhone again in no time.

I currently have the 32GB iPhone 4 on pre-order. It's good to be back. (And yes, the Apple fanboy Kool-Aid is delicious.)

HTC Droid Incredible Review

As I said in the unboxing, HTC and Verizon Wireless have a winner on their hands!

Right away I was caught onto the device and was hooked on it ever since the first hour of use. I got the hang of things and pretty much felt like I made this device. So let's start the review, shall we?

Hardware:

- The Incredible has a micro USB, 3.5 mm Headphone jack, volume rocker, and the on/off/sleep/wake button (as shown in the video )

- Also it has the 1 GHZ Qualcomm SnapDragon Processor which makes this device extremely fast and snappy; makes multitasking a breeze!

- 3.7 inch AMOLED display is very vivid in dark situations, but when the screen is in direct sunlight, its very very hard to read, the AMOLED’s displays have a very big problem with glare.

Software:

- The Incredible runs Android 2.1 with HTC Sense UI over it, which is the first to do that. Sense definitely makes this device ten times better than Android alone, with all the intergration for all Android apps plus all HTC apps and widgets makes this device a social networking god, and makes all the business users happy with the business and lifestyle apps you can get on this device!

The Incredible can run multiple apps at the same time, and will not be slow, thanks to the 1GHZ processor inside! But browsing the web is a breeze, has all the neat gestures you find on the iPhone on the Droid Incredible! The browser is definitely faster then the iPhone 3GS over a wifi connection.

‘Leap’

Leap is a new feature on Android 2.1 and HTC Sense, which allows you to leap between home screens, instead of swiping between your seven home screens, all you have to do is pinch in, to zoom out, and you get a thumbnail view of each home screen! Then tap to your preferred home screen and you LEAP to that screen!

Messages and Email

The Incredible has great programs that run Messages and Email quick,  and responsive. The messages app opens up all of your messages (SMS, MMS). The onscreen QWERTY keyboard is very responsive, you get haptics while you type.

Email is the same; great interface, you can scroll through your emails, search for them, and type emails in a snap.

Apps

The Android Market is a growing market, much like the App store for iPhone, the Android market may not have as many apps as the App store does, but more are being added daily! The Apps are fun, cool, and I really like personal assistants that help you in daily life, remind you when you have meetings, etc. And basic stuff like that. But so many phones fall down in this area, The Incredible is not one. I found many pre-installed apps that help! Also found a bunch of fun games that can kill time while traveling, or when you want to play a fun game on your phone!

The HTC Incredible is a great Android phone, the BEST in my opinion.

It runs great apps, runs smoothly and has killer OS. Many phones just copy their competition, HTC and Google has a winner on their hands, and Verizon has a great network for that winner. This is a great match up between carriers and product! If you’re on the market for a new phone, the HTC Incredible should be on you should consider picking up!
